"WE SHOULD TELL HER." My head lay on his bare chest, dark locks sticking to the thin layer of perspiration. The metal cross of his necklace against my cheek, cold and hard. His hand drew circles on the curve of my hip, heat rushing through my body at the small action. Our sweaty limbs lay tangled together under his smooth silk sheets like they always did.
My guilt came back like it always did.
He sighed and extracted his body from mine, the sheets gathering at his waist. "Toni, you know how I feel about you." No, I don't. "But we both know Mira and how much it'll hurt her and how dramatic she'll be and—"
He blew out a breath and ran his hand through my hair like he always did when we were talking about Mira. "You know I only want you." No, I don't.
This was the situation I often found myself in: laying naked in the bed of my roommate's boyfriend, listening to the sweet nothings, broken promises, and pitiful excuses whispered in my ear.
I got up from the bed, pulling the sheets with me as I searched the floor for my clothes. How could I fall for this again? Why couldn't I learn my lesson? And why couldn't I find my damn clothes?
I huffed and turned around, the sheets twisting at my feet. "Could you please help me find my clothes?"
"Yeah," he breathed, pulling on a pair of plaid boxers.
We searched in silence, collecting pieces of my clothing from last night. Finally, when I had found everything and shrugged them on, attempting to look halfway decent, I grabbed my bag and reached for the door.
"Toni."
I stopped, but I didn't turn around. I refused to give in completely. I heard the soft padding of his footsteps, and then felt the warmth of his breath and tickle of his hair as he bent into the crook of my neck.
"I'm sorry, baby." His hands sliding down my arms. Goosebumps on my skin. "What I said was stupid." His hands exploring my sides. Butterflies in my stomach. "I want you so much." His hands on my hips. Shivers through my core. "Please come back to bed with me so I can show you just how much, baby." He pressed himself against me. A gasp fell from my lips.
And just like that, I fell deeper into the abyss that was Sutton Brady.
