It could be considered hell to be on streets of Edo. They were literally packed, and so navigating was hard. Merchant carts would line up in the middle of street, finding it incredibly difficult to find the opportunity to move as the large crowd of people were everywhere. To move forward meant to trample and possibly kill people, this act having been done before in the past.
Sticking to the side of the road near the walls of the connected buildings was Yohei, an irritated look on his face. He figured it would have been easier to move if he was further from the center of the crowding. Yohei's judgment was correct, however it was still hard as many of the town's poor sat up against the walls, Yohei having to move past them and step over an occasional dead body.
As Yohei held the wall, struggling to move, he looked at the signs of the buildings to check for anywhere he could get a bite to eat and rest his head.
After turning around at a few intersections, Yohei came across what he was looking for. Just in front of him was an inn with an open doorway, the only thing obstructing the view of the interior from the outside being two white banners hanging down from the top of the frame and stopping in the middle.
Yohei walked through the two banners as they went over his shoulders, it soon being evident to him how packed the inn was. A lot of the tables were packed with all kinds of people. The poor, the rich, and the criminally involved. The staff struggled to get out the orders to everyone as nearly every seat was packed with feasting customers ordering more and more.
To Yohei's surprise was a near empty table with only one customer. The customer was a young girl dressed in a rather clean navy blue kimono complete with a neatly folded cloth of the same color wrapping around her waist to keep the kimono closed. Figuring it was the most peaceful place to sit, Yohei sat across from the girl, paying her no mind as she ate
She's probably rich or something Yohei thought to himself as he pulled his legs over the bench and sat down. He then looked down at her meal. It was a simple dish of sushi served on a wooden plate. It wasn't much, and it definitely wasn't enough to sate one's hunger.
No longer interested in the fancy girl's food, he turned turned around to a waitress behind him, tapping her on the shoulder.
"Could I get what she's having?" He requested, a finger pointed at the young girls dish in which she simply glanced at him before returning to her food. It may not have been enough to sate his hunger, but it sure as hell was the only thing he could afford.
The waitress nodded. "As you can see we're currently going through a lot of business so it may take us some time to come with your order."
"Can't be helped." Yohei turned back around and waved her off. "Just make sure it's good."
The waitress bowed and speed walked to the kitchen. With nothing to do, Yohei placed his arms on the table and twiddled his thumbs. Unbeknownst to him, the girl in front of him gave him occasional glances. During one of these glances, Yohei managed to catch her in which she simply and silently went back to her food.
"There an issue?" Yohei prompted, breaking the silence.
"I just find it interesting seen a man of your--" The girl looked up and paused, looking the ronin up and down before speaking again. "Disposition" She let this word hang, clearly holding some kind of implication, "ordering something like a simple plate of sushi. You're either different from the rest of the hungry pigs in here or just utterly broke."
Yohei rubbed the back of his head and laughed a little. "It's the latter. If I could be feasting on some grand meal right now, trust me I would. He looked over at her plate. "What about you? Are you some sort of food connisseur?"
