School ended unceremoniously and although I kept my eyes open, I hadn't spotted Brad even once throughout the day. Our student population is pretty large but with his personality, it should've been easy to pinpoint him at one of the popular tables or even around one of the sports teams. He wasn't in the library either.

He's probably avoiding me.

Which made sense. He'd been momentarily infatuated with a person he considered to be at the bottom of the pyramid he was pharaoh of, it would be completely rational of him to avoid any further contact with me by staying home while he salvaged his bruised ego. Maybe I should give him space? I had to get a move on though, things weren't exactly stable enough to put his feelings into consideration. He probably wouldn't speak to me anyway.

But when the final bell rang, I found him waiting for me outside the school gates, wearing a blue hoodie and grey sweats, his expression grim. Not the nauseating love-struck look from yesterday. Thank goodness.

I started toward him, smiling. "Friend number two, how are you?"

"I feel violated," Brad replied.

I shook my head, trying not to laugh. "It couldn't have been that bad."

"I thought you were more beautiful than myself." He shuddered. "It can't get any worse than that."

"Sorry," I said, meaning it too.

He shrugged. "You'll have to pay me back later."

I stepped closer, grinning. "This is the part when you're supposed to say it was nothing, that's what friends are for and you might've actually secretly enjoyed liking me...blah blah blah."

Brad raised a brow, opened his mouth to respond but then I was suddenly being lifted by a pair of strong arms and pulled against an equally strong figure. A single finger tilted my chin up until I was staring into Will's annoyed brown eyes. "Tell me you weren't just flirting with that low-life," he demanded.

I pushed away from him, face hot more from his touch rather than the accusation. "I wasn't flirting with Brad."

"Yes, she was," Brad said, grinning when I glared. It wasn't his usual mischievous smile though, this one looked plain...mean. "She certainly looked happier to see me than you. I wonder why?"

Will took a step in Brad's direction, brows slanting down over eyes that were swirling golden. "Why would she be happier to see you?"

"Maybe because I'm not the 'friend' who parties and bangs girls while she sits outside alone on deserted streets at night?" Brad shrugged nonchalantly. "It's only a wild guess though."

Will made an angry sound in the back of his throat but I was already inserting myself between them before he could even think about pouncing. "Why the heck can't you two get along? You're like water and oil."

Brad snorted. "You're a writer, Kiara. This," he pointed at Will, me and then at himself, "is the cliché love triangle. Obviously the two of us aren't going to get along when we both want you."

My jaw nearly hit the sidewalk. "You're joking."

Brad smiled as if he were in pain. "I wish I was."

Will placed his hands on my waist and lifted me, striding about five paces away from Brad. He set me down, his mouth a thin line. "From now on there has to be at least a five feet distance between you and him," he said.

Brad burst out laughing. "What, do we also need to wear sunglasses so we don't accidentally gaze into each others eyes too?"

Will patted me on the head. "I'm going to go kill him."

"Another bad idea, Cage," Brad replied, sauntering over to us. "If you do that then you won't find out anything about the so-called Alpha Eater."

"You know something?" I asked.

"My mom does. Guess you'll have to stand more than five feet away from me if you want to know too."

He smiled, navy blue eyes bright.

Will frowned, amber eyes murderous.

I pushed past Will. "Take us to your mom."

Sorry for the long wait, I've finally overcome the giant monster known as writers block(momentarily) and got this down. I know it's a short chapter but I hope you enjoyed it :) Excited to meet Brad's mom? I'll try to get the next chapter out sooner. Thanks for reading! Xxx
