Keith

It wasn't meant to happen. I didn't mean to leave him like that. I was supposed to tell him. I just didn't know when, I didn't know how...

"Keith, how could you not tell me?"

"I-I'm sorry, I didn't know when to tell you!"

He only scoffed at me. "Keith, you left everyone, you put the team in jeopardy, you put the lives of countless other people in jeopardy!" He paused, his eyes staring right into mine. I felt small. "You put me in jeopardy!"

My throat felt dry. His eyes were burning in anger, his mouth crooked in a resentful glare. I could feel my heart pounding fearfully against my ribs and my eyes pricked with threatening tears. He's never been this mad. He's never shouted at me like this before...

"Tell me, Keith, when were you going to tell me? When were you going to tell me that you were leaving to join the Blade of Marmora?"

I opened my mouth but nothing came out but a silent choked sob.

"When, Keith?" His voice was loud and so commanding. I jumped and my voice cracked as I suddenly started to spew words.

"I-I'm sorry, Lance, please! Don't be mad! I didn't have the time, I-I didn't know how to tell you! I was so busy and-"

"And what, Keith, what? You kept on disappearing and now you're just leaving? What the hell is with that? I thought I was your boyfriend, Keith."

I stared at him, the tears spilling down my cheeks in rushed waterfalls. "L-Lance..."

I stepped towards him, feeling cold and just wanting his warmth. My hand reached out to touch his cheek, to stop him from trembling, to stop the angry tears that reflected my pained ones. But it didn't work.

He slapped my hand away, taking a step back. "If you keep leaving me, why don't you just leave for good!"

His words echoed loudly. They wouldn't stop ringing in my ears. My whole body froze, almost numb. I couldn't feel anything. I couldn't feel the floor as I fell to my knees, I couldn't feel the hot tears burning against my cheeks, I couldn't feel the loneliness crashing down on me as he walked away without a second glance, I couldn't feel him, I couldn't feel anything but my heart breaking.

~

I shook my head, pulling my hood up and crouching below a low ridge, under the soft shadows. I shouldn't have been thinking of that, especially not on a mission.

Glancing around me, I brought my mask up and crept toward the inactive Galra base. From the information Kolivan received from Coran and Allura, the lions shouldn't be here until I've left. Which is good so I won't see Lance.

I sprinted slyly to the front opening, the doors ajar, open like a bent branch. I crept in, heading my way to the control room.

It was quiet and no sentries were seen anywhere. They must've abandoned this place ages ago.

A soft glowing light glimmers in the corner of the corridor and I head towards it.

~

It was easier than I thought. Just went in then straight out. I sat underneath the ridge, waiting for Kolivan's orders.

I'd sent all the data to him and I should be gone before Lance gets here. I hope. Glancing up at the sky, I sighed. It was all a mistake. But, really, I didn't have enough time to tell him...

I should've told him sooner. I trust him and he trusted me. It was all my fault...

Moments passed by and there was still nothing from Kolivan.

I sighed again, lying down against the rough rock. Life sure loved giving me a heck of a lot of time to think about all my mistakes.

I miss him... It was my fault and I didn't mean it. He had no clue how much I missed him, how much I missed having his arms around me, his voice always singing to me in that soft Spanish tone, how he'd always hold me close at night to keep me warm. I missed all the times we took turns taking each other out in our lions.

As if on a cue, I hear a loud roar. That was definitely Red.

I drew back, my hood pulled right over my head as I watched Red land in front of the base. My heart was already starting to beat faster. I watched as Red leaned forward, jaw opening, letting that one figure stride out...

He was there, in his blue Paladin uniform, a serious look on his face but that curious and wary glimmer still in his eyes. I couldn't help but smile; he was scaling against the doors like this was some James Bond movie.

Holding my breath, my eyes darted from him as he ran in, desperately waiting. For Kolivan? Maybe. For Lance? Hell, I couldn't leave without seeing my Sharpshooter.

Only a few moments had passed when I could hear faint gun shots echo in the base. Alert, I stood up. Was Lance in trouble? There wasn't anyone there when I went in...

Then...

Everything shook.

The ground beneath me cracked and crumbled and I lost my footing. I saw the Galra fleet shadow above us, their cannons firing at the base.

There was dust in my eyes. My whole body felt cracked as I was thrown across the ground. Achingly, I dragged myself up, seeing Red already set on the Galra ships surrounding us.

Sentries were flooding in at every corner, shots were fired at every angle. The base was on fire. Every cannon had its aim on it, relentlessly firing.

I couldn't let them get to him. I can't leave him!

I looked straight at where he'd ran to earlier.

And I ran.
