Chapter 16
****
“Happy Birthday! I made you a cake! I dropped it though so it’s in the bin now. But it’s the thought that counts!” Hannah said as I rubbed my face into the pillow.
“Hannah? What are you doing here?” I yawned.
She moved my legs to the side so she could sit down on the edge of the bed.
“I know you don’t like to celebrate your birthday because of, well you know…. but I couldn’t just let you rot in bed the whole day. Let’s go out and do something fun!”
I tried to sit up but I was too tired. I had come home way to late yesterday and had hardly gotten any sleep despite of how tired I was, because I couldn’t stop thinking about the kiss and why I couldn’t stop thinking about Nate. I still didn’t figure it out. I couldn’t like him. It would make things so complicated and that was not what I needed in my life right now. We live together, at least for another month.
“I’m not in the mood. But thanks anyway.”
I tried to cover my face with the blanket but Hannah yanked it off of me and pulled me so that I would sit up. Damn her for being so strong!
“Come on! Don’t be such a buzz kill! I’m trying to take your mind off of it. I even got you a present! And I wrote you a card! Please just open them?”
She handed me the card first which said,
“Money's tight
Times are hard
Here's you fucking birthday card”
“Wow thanks. It really expresses your feeling towards me.” I said sarcastically.
“You are welcome.” She said as if she didn’t understand sarcasm.
After the card she handed me what seemed like a box, which was wrapped with brown paper.
“I couldn’t find any wrapping paper so I improvised.” She smirked.
I ripped off the paper and saw a box that was completely covered with pictures of both of us. I opened the box and found a bunch of small gifts inside. The fist one I noticed was a T-shirt that said, “Safe a Virgin, do me instead.” Which made me chuckle loudly.
“I’ll wear it all the time!” I joked even though I probably would, at home of course, not on the street or to school.
