I strolled alongside my parents as we headed for the counter set-up at the main entrance of the amphitheatre. The size of it has never ceased to scare me. I was briefed yesterday by my parents that there would be volunteers to do a a health check on us. A hurried one.
It would consist of blood test, eyesight test and last but not least, weighing us. I had always hated this process, not entirely but the queue and the blood.
I stood impatiently in line with the queue for our health check, my right foot stamped the concrete floor repetitively, which rightfully gained me some venomous glares from people near me. I rolled my eyes at their politeness.
The sweltering heat was definitely making me more stubborn, tired and last but not least, impatient.
My parents had given up correcting me to be more lady-like when I was twelve. Right, the year I was twelve was the most tediously warm--wait, hot--year and you know me, I can't tolerate global warming. I would get snappy and... uncomfortable.
After ten minutes of waiting, it was finally my turn. I held out my hand to a bored-looking nurse. Gosh, I would do anything to be like her, not afraid of blood. I bit my lip hard and looked away as a piercing pain shot through my thumb, where she had drawn my blood out. I noted that my health check had only taken five minute but it was horrendously long.
"You're good to go," The nurse urshed me towards the amphitheatre as she thrusts me my ticket which stated my seating number.
I glanced back one last time at my parents as they did their test and when their eyes caught mine they gave me a reassuring nod and smile, giving me strength for me to start walking in search of my seat in the vast area.
I returned them a weak smile and headed off to find my seat.
After gaining much help from the directions plate set up, I settled down. My eyes did its own observation. The amphitheatre was already half-filled with people. When it everyone arrived, the President, flanked by two scientists in white lab coat, sauntered to the front of the stage of the amphitheatre. Uh-oh, I'm having a bad feeling about this.
Scientist? I thought it should be body guards to accompany him? The president raised the michrophone and spoke into it. "You are gathered here for a..briefing on what will be happening the later." His words only added to the uneasy feeling in my stomach."Now, I know food and water is scarce here," His words were met with mumurs of agreement.
Raising his hand to silence them, he continued," So these scientists--" He gestured towards the scientists "--have come up with a brilliant plan to solve this problem."
The president handed over the microphone to a scientist who looked like the leader, "Um, hello. As the president said earlier,my group of scientists and I have come up with a formula. It's not a cure or vaccine. It's a serum actually. This serum will put you to sleep, but you won't die." The scientist explained.
Hm,that reminds me of the sleeping beauty. The needle put her to sleep. Seems like it's going to happen to all of us. There would be plenty of sleeping princesses and princes.
I probably should stop having this thought imprinted in my mind.
"You will now come out to the front to be injected, row by row."
Injections! Oh man.
I followed the person in front of me and tried my best to follow the instructions.
However,my mind kept pondering over the serum. That mysterious serum. I wonder what it contained?
"Next!"
An order broke my train of thoughts. I glanced up to find a man holding a syringe filled with..red liquid. Ugh,that reminds me of blood.
I reluctantly held out my arm and winced as the serum went inside my body. I looked around for my parents, but simply could not find them.
My vision blurred and it wasn't long before darkness engulfed me.
