The Red Dress
Madeline smoothed down her hair that was bunched up in a ponytail. She frowned, Should she keep it up or down? Or half-up and down?
She checked her make up again for the hundredth time, Light dusting of blush, not that she would actually need it around him, clear lip gloss and mascara, not much make up. She glanced at her clothes too, just in case, to see a plain white summer dress and flats and an olive jacket, the weather seemed to cool down recently.
It also dawned on her how she was acting.
Oh God! She mentally smacked her palm against her forehead. What was it with her!? This wasn't a date!
Madeline looked angrily at herself in the mirror. Why, oh why, did that stupid teacher have to pick her to help him, he seemed to be doing fine!
But, the thought that some other girl be his tutor made her heart spark with jealousy. Jealousy!?
Is she going crazy? She just met him!
She sighed, her head starting to ache. Walking over to the table to see all the books in order, the bell rang.
She crinkled her nose in confusion. Who was that? It could be Lucas? No, of course not, she asked to meet at the Library!
She walked to the door and looked into the peep hole. It was him.
What in the...? How does he know her address? He didn't even know where the Library was!
The bell rang again, impatiently. She jumped back startled, what was she to do!?
She cautiously opened the door as though giving food to a lion.
"Hello." Lucas greeted her nonchalantly.
"Hi," She said, managing to keep a steady voice. "How do you know where I live?" She was straight forward.
He turned his head slightly to the side and gave a mysterious smile that made her heart lurch. Seeing him saying nothing, she asked, "Should I be worried?"
He gave her a look of amusement and dark humor, "Very."
She swallowed, trying to push down a lump in her throat.
"L-Let me go get my things." She mumbled looking down and hurrying to get her purse and stuff all the books in there, both her blood and thoughts rushing everywhere. She felt slightly dizzy and her headache seem to worsen.
She quickly stumbled down the stairs to reach the door. She still saw him outside her doorstep. Why didn't he come inside?
"I'm done." She said.
"Then we're going." He stated calming walking out of her porch.
Madeline rushed out, trying to catch up with him.
They reached a shiny black car. He opened the door of the passenger seat, indicating her to slide in.
"You want me to get in the car?" She said uncertainly. He gave her a look.
"Haven't you heard of not going into cars with strangers?" She boldly said.
"Must have missed the memo." He replied sarcastically. She said nothing.
He sighed, "Look, wouldn't I have killed you already if I wanted to?"
Madeline's eyes widened. What!?
"This place is practically isolated. I could steal from you, hurt you, easy. Because nobody would hear you scream and even if they could, seeing how far your house is from anybody actually having a chance of hearing you, would take a hell lot of time and by then, I would be gone. And nobody would ever suspect me."
Madeline's mouth opened in shock. "That was...Well, you put a lot of thought in that.." He smiled again, "You would be surprised at how much I didn't."
She turned away and silently slid into the car. Her thoughts going haywire.
And the session hadn't even started yet.
