WASHINGTON HAD BEEN BLESSED WITH A SUNNY DRY SUMMER. Some years despite the warmth the sky was still filled with a gloomy layer of clouds that kept the sun locked away. The summer before Aurora Ackers sophomore year, however, had been blessed with the light.

The young girl of 16 loved the rain with every ounce of her soul. (If she didn't  she would have begged her father for relocation years ago.) But even then, she could appreciate the sun and its benefits. When she wasn't working she was out and about causing trouble with her friends. And with the summer dwindling down and the school year wavering on the horizons she was trying to get all the fun she could get before the timer was set off.

"Dad! Have you seen my wallet?" Aurora called out to her father as she rushed around the house tossing things around in search. She ignored the honking car out front of their modest two-bedroom home. She was dressed in a simple white summer dress and wore her yellow polka dot bathing suit beneath the cotton fabric. Her feet were encased in tan sandals and her hair was pulled back into a messy ponytail with wisps of hair falling from the light grey scrunchie that was holding them back.

She walked through to the kitchen from the living room and spotted her father sitting at the dining table fit for four. A cup of coffee resting on the side of his finished breakfast plate. A sports magazine was held in his left hand, the pages flipped over to read the article on the right side, while his right hand held up a rainbow-patterned wallet. Aurora gasped seeing her wallet in his hands. She skipped over and plucked it from his hand.

"Thank you, thank you!" She told him gratefully. "Where was it?"

David Acker blinked blankly at his young teenage daughter. She was smiling widely at her wallet as she flicked through the few bills she had inside of it, her eyebrows furrowing seeing more than she remembered not knowing that he had snuck in a few extra tens inside of it for her. "On the table," He replied with a shake of his head. "You know if you actually put things back where they belong you wouldn't be losing things all the time."

She bobbed her head. "I know, I know," She held her hands in defense of her repeated actions. "I just forget is all." A honk from the driveway sounded in her ears making her jump up in the realization that her friends were still waiting for her outside. "Okay, that's the girls! I have to go! I'll be home before dinner like I promised."

"You have a ride home right?" Her father looked up at her with a raised questioning brow.

"Yeah, Jessica promised to take me back home." She nodded promptly.

        "And Jessica has her license?"

"Yes, and she's had it for more than 6 months so she's allowed to drive with us in the car." She groaned out her words as she had already told her father the plans in the previous day.
