Anaiya POV :
"The sound of an alarm clock is never pleasing" I thought as I reached over my counter to turn mine off. It was time for me to get ready for school. Today is my first day of high school. I literally feel like I've been trapped in middle school my whole life. "Anaiya, are you getting up?" I heard my mom yell to me. I got up out of my bed and responded, "Yes!" I went into the bathroom, splashed water onto my face, and stared in the mirror. A sudden realization came upon me. It was my fault. My dad would've still been here if I had've stayed home and played uno. It. Was. My. Fault. I splashed more water on my face, which turned into more... and more... and more. Now the water that was intentionally on my face, was now all over the walls and had my hair soaked.
I finished getting dressed and made my way downstairs. On the table my mom had fresh lactose free milk and a plate of breakfast. I was able to smell the dew and can feel the moisture in the air. "Bad hair day?" my mom asked trying to hold in her laugh. I shook my head no , "I... have a question?". "Yes sweetie?" My mom asked, now turning her head toward me. "Do you think it's my fault?" I asked eating one of my sausages. "Think whats your fault?" she asked. I got prepared to ask her this. "Mom, before me and dad left the day he died, he asked me to play uno with him.. I chose to go out for ice cream. I've realized it's my fault that my life is ruined and i'm sorry I ruined yours also. Im... sorry." I could now feel the tears escaping down my face. My heart now pounding out of my chest. My head was down and I felt her lift my chin to look her in the eye. "It is not your fault and has never been your fault. Don't let me ever hear that come out of your mouth again. You had no idea what was going to happen in that vehicle Anaiya Janaé, understand?" I can tell she was serious. Her tone of voice and her demeanor changed. " Yes ma'-m, but I-". She kissed me on my forehead and walked away.
On my way to school, I had my earphones in my ear, and glared out the window. There are so few green spaces in the city and the sun is always eluded behind a cloud. As we arrive at my school, I see everyone mostly with smiles on their faces, meanwhile mine remains a crooked smile. "Have a good day." my mom said as she unlocked the car door and kissed my forehead. I got out of the car and made my way toward the school doors. I felt eyeballs on me, it's always been that way since my father passed, like someone watched my every move.
