I walked down my driveway with my backpack, ready for school. As predicted yesterday Lily was giving me a ride to school, I had texted her last night asking her for a ride. She was parked at the curb by my front lawn on her phone. She drove a white SUV, with a little dent in the passenger side door from where she drove the car into a mailbox on her first day of having a licence. She was sitting in the drivers seat looking in the mirror to make sure her brown hair was perfectly placed.
"Hey Edie! You ready?" She yelled at me, "Hurry up lets go! I am not getting any younger!" I rolled my eyes at her. "Geez! You are so slow! Come on!"
"Alright! Alright I'm coming!" I ran down the driveway to pacify her.
I opened the passenger side door and got into the car. "Oh look who decided to show up" she teased. "Shut up and drive."
Lily put the car in drive and started on the route to school. She had put on some music to fill in the silence and to let us jam before school.
"So, how was your night?" Lily asked me. "It was interesting. My car broke down at school so I had to get a ride and then pick up mom from Dan's. She was not doing good at all, then I came home watched a movie and ate some pizza." I purposefully did not tell Lily about Landon because she would totally freak out and make it even more of a big deal, so to stop it from happening I just won't tell her.
"That's not good. I told you that you could stay over at my house when ever your mom gets like that. I know that she is your mom and you want to take care of her but it is not your job to parent her. She needs to do that for herself and needs to move on from the past, drinking her sorrows away is not going to bring your dad back, and why would you want that bastard back he is the one that left y'all and I think y'all are better off with out him." she lectures me.
"Lily you're preaching to the choir on this one, the person you should be telling this to is my mom. But she would probably be too drunk to understand what you are saying anyways." I sigh.
"I know, just take care of your self and get out of that damn house." she tells me.
About ten minutes later we pull up to the school and parked in a parking spot a few feet from the door. I got out of the car and made my way into the building running my hands through my blonde hair. Lily was right beside me like she always was. We had been friends forever, we were practically sisters. She knew everything about me and I knew everything about her.
"So, have you talked to Daniel any since your date a few days ago?" I asked because I knew that it would embarrass her even more. She blushed slightly and nodded. "Yea we talk for a while last night on the phone and we are planning on hanging out Friday after school."
"Ooooo, Lily's gotta date." I said in a singsong voice. I was honestly really excited for her because ever since her last boyfriend she has had issues trusting guys. "What are you guys gonna go do?" I ask to keep the embarrassment alive.
"Well I think we are going to the movies and then get food afterward. Pretty standard date if you ask me." Lily said trying to down play the whole situation but I knew that she was really excited. I looked down the hall and saw that the boy in question was walking toward us. "Oh would you look at that. Here he comes." I heard her physically stop breathing and tense up slightly. "hey chill out." I whispered to her.
Daniel was tall about 6" and towered over Lily's 5"4' stature. I could tell that he made her have butterflies just by looking at the blush on her cheeks. I smirked and opened my water bottle. "Hey Lily." Daniel said smoothly.
Lily's smile widened even more, "Hey yourself." I stopped listening as I concentrated on finding my homework from last night. I rummaged through my bags and found that my papers were exactly where I left them. My train of thought was interrupted when I heard a clearing of the throat. I choose to ignore it, assuming that it was just Lily or Daniel but when I felt a jab in my side, I was forced to give them my attention. I looked up to see Lily giving my a skeptical look and slightly surprised.
