Magic 8 Ball, new story whoop whoop?

Whoop whoop

Marci

“Mooooom! I’m going to school now!” A loud feminine voice yells from down the hall.

I spit out the minty toothpaste, taking a swig from the Dixie cup filled with water.

I throw the Dixie cup in the trash as I walk out of the bathroom and back down the hall, watching from the doorframe of the front door as my thirteen year old daughter walks down the driveway, the sunlight framing her petite body into a shadow on the cement.

“Do you want me to drive you to school?” I call after her.

“I’ll just take the bus, I know you’ve got a lot to do today,” she calls after her, not turning around.

“I really don’t have a lot, Sage, I always have time to do stuff for you,” I protest.

“I can take the bus. Seriously, mom,” she turns around, her brown eyes connecting with my own.

I nod.

“Do you have everything?” I ask her again as she turns back around and finishes the walk to the end of the driveway.

“Yeah mom, don’t worry about it,” she answers.

“Did you get your homework done? Do you have your lunch? Mrs. Witner sent me an e-mail saying that you need headphones for today, did you pack those?” I bombard her with questions.

Hey, I just want her to be prepared.

It’s a mom’s duty.

“Yes, yes, and yes,” Sage puts up three fingers and knocks each down with every yes.

“Alright. Be nice to others unless they’re mean to you, then either kick them in the nuts or punch them in the boob.”

“I got it mom, seriously I’m thirteen!”

“You’re still my little baby girl,” I whine, “can’t you just stay home with me and we can cuddle and watch World’s Strictest Parents all day?”

“I’ve got to get an education, remember?” She swivels around to give me a pointed look.

I’m about to open my mouth until a rumble down the street cuts me off.

“Have a good day at school, Sage. I love you,” I call after her as she walks to the school bus’s open doors.
