When I woke up the morning of my birthday, I skipped downstairs to meet my father for my birthday breakfast. He always had the maids make jello cake and waffles. I was excited, but the dining room was empty when I got there.
Confused, I went to father's room and knocked. He didn't open the door or respond. I started to get nervous, so I let myself in. The sight was even more confusing.
"Stupid Hero and Trinity..." Father mumbled, throwing knives at pictures of their faces. "I'm keepin' her. Jade isn't leaving me now." Father threw a knife really hard. "I'll kill 'em if I have to!"
"F-father?" I stammered. "What're you doing?"
Father turned to face me. "Oh, honey! Sorry I wasn't at breakfast I was um..." Father looked at me. I got scared of him.
"Those are the nice people in the woods. On the pictures with the knives? Why—who are they?" I said. "And why do you want to kill them?"
"Honey, they're your mother and your step-dad," Father spat out. He seemed surprised at saying that. "I—uh—I mean—-I'm not saying—I—you're not my daughter but I'm keeping you despite the deal we had!"
There was a knock on the front door. Father went to answer it with his sword in his hand. I was crying quietly. I watched him open the door and I ran to the woman with the glowing eyes and hugged her. I cried into her belly.
"What did you say, Notch?!" My real mother said. She looked angry at him.
Notch was angry, too. "I love her and she will stay with me!" He growled in a voice I'd never heard him use. "I don't care about our deal! She will stay with me, Trinity."
Mother looked down at me. "She is my daughter."
"I don't care!"
I continued to cry as I ran past my mother and into the city. Life had been perfect and now everything was a lie? Why would my mother give me away? And why did they lie to me?
All the people in the city stared at me as I ran through crowd after crowd. Finally, I stopped in an alley and curled up in the corner. I hated everything.
