I opened my eyes. Instead of the sky, I was greeted by an unfamiliar ceiling. Probably millions and millions of feet away. I just laid there feeling the bliss of waking up. As that happend, my common sense came too. I jolted from the ground and realized I was in the middle of dead trees. The ground was very arid, which made my throat dry too. I need to find rations ASAP.

I stood up and looked around the lifeless glade. All the paths had the same gray aura so i entered a random path. I felt so vulnerable so I stupidly picked up a fallen branch that seemed sturdy.

''I'll probably regret this later." I murmured. A plant had caught my eyes. It was alive, which I deemed impossible. Something was the off with it, for it had these yellow petals and a center with multiple pores. I swear I saw  worm exit a pore and and entered through another. My hair all over my body stood up.

"Psst" it deemed to say made me nervous. Oh no, did it see me? I looked around and noticed a man nearer to the plant. I felt relief knowing that it wasn't me it's talking to.

The man slowly walked towards the plant. He looked calm but I knew he was afraid. I stepped forward to save him when another man sitting on a high branch caught my eye. He was looking at me. He shook his head and pointed his index finger upwards. What's with that? The plant suddenly talked again and I hid behind a tree.

"Don't be afraid now boy. Here, let me calm you down." It said in a raspy voice. I felt something behind me that put me on full alert and fear. I was about to scream when he covered my mouth with a black half-mask.

"Climb." He ordered stoically. He hung the mask on my ears. I followed him nervously. But before I did, I turned around and I saw black fumes spewing out of the plant's pores. The previous man screamed as he fell to the floor and his head tilted upwards, pleading for my help.

I froze.

"AAAAAAAH! HELP ME! PLEASE FOR FUCK'S SAKE, HELP ME! SOMEBODY, PLEASE! I CAN'T MOVE!" The man said repeatedly. I froze not because of the fumes but because of sheer terror. Tears formed as I slowly covered my ears. My hands shook. I closed my eyes, muttering "I'm sorry" repeatedly.

I felt so afraid.

I was about to collapse when the mysterious guy turned me back around and pushed me up the tree.

"Stop, please MAKE IT STOP!" I mindlessly whispered to myself. I heard the man in front of me sigh.

"Climb up or I'll leave you here to die." He growled. I weakly followed his orders, my body seeming to move on its own. Once we reached a high, large branch, I stared down on the presumably victim. Worms came out of the plant's pores. The man was still alive. He had looked down and saw the worms coming near him. The first one reached him and quickly latched onto his leg. He screamed as three more painfully buried into his body. Hundreds raced towards his paralyzed body.

I just stared at him.

Tears flowing every now and then.

I felt the presence of my savior behind me. His breath blew through my hair. His was sow and steady while mine was rugged. He covered my eyes but my tears still flowed through.

"This might be too much for you,  but some things are worse than this. You have to be strong if you want to survive." He whispered softly in my ear. Somehow, his whisper calmed me through the man's screaming. The man's screaming soon subsided into gurgle and turned into silence. Savior-guy uncovered my eyes and revealed the most terrifying sight I've ever seen.

The man was covered in holes.  Worms were coming out of his eyes, nose, ears, and mouth. A big puddle of blood surrounded his corpse. I gagged at the sight.

"Remember what I said to you earlier. There are still worse than this. We have to move, it will scan this area for more food." He whispered as he grabbed my chin to look at him. I noticed his eyes were heterochromic; an ocean blue and a neon green. One of his scleras were black. My eyes were about to look at the corpse but both of his hands grabbed the sides of my face.

"Just don't look at it and you'll be fine." He said, staring into my (e/c) eyes. He jumped down the tree and rolled when he reached the ground. I did the same. I felt awesome but at the same time, painful. I stood up proud and tall but I suddenly lost my balance and... SNAP! A fallen branch and it quickly caught the plant's attention.  The worms that was busy feasting on the carcass, left their meal and turned onto us. At the same time it released fumes and an ear-piercing screech.

I jolted up and he took me by the hand to run. Every now and then, we took a turn to make sure the we lose the abnormally fast worms. Finally, we reached a wide river. Both fear and fatigue caused me to collapse.

The river's gushing sound caused me to drift away to sleep.

I just want some fucking water.
