I woke up from my dreamless sleep. Beside me sat a dying campfire wherein only coals and embers were left. Ashes that scattered around was taken away by the source less  wind.

Not far from me, my savior sat asleep. He was leaning on a boulder as if he fell asleep watching over me. Maybe he did.

My throat was dry and my lips were chapped. I stood up and walked to the riverbank. The water looked calm but it was deep. Deep enough to maybe call it an abyss. I kneeled with one leg and tried to scoop some water when a voice interrupted me.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." Somebody warned. I looked around but no one except me and the guy was around. I shrugged the thought off and resumed at my task.

"Here, use this." The voice said again. I turned around and saw a top hat. Hmm, strange. I looked around to see whose hat this was.

"It's probably just some garbage." I mumbled to myself. But to my surprise a flask was revealed underneath it as the hat was carried away by the sourceless wind. Hmm, peculiar. Well, I might as well use this. Anything could happen in this world.

"Don't tell me you think gifts are garbage." The voice said. Again. I wonder where that voice comes from. It wasn't clear where the voice was coming from. It was echoey and a little deep. I looked at 'savior' and saw him sleeping deeply. I was cautious to my environment. We'll never know what might junp out from the shadows, especially there's someone watching us.

"Hello? Who are you?" I half whispered

...

Silence.

I took one more glance around to see if any hellish creature is lurking around. When I was sure that no one was around I walked towards the flask and picked it up but I saw a top hat pop up on the boulder. I ran around and inspected the big rock. No one was around. What's with this hat?

I turned around but I kept my focus on the hat. I picked up the flask and headed to the river. I glanced back at the hat and thank God it was still on the rock. Why am I so anxious around this hat? I mean, it's just a hat right? I almost laughed at myself for being scared to a hat.

I carefully dipped the flask... DAMN THE CURRENT'S STRONG! What the fuck?! I looked again and saw that the river seemed calm.

"Welp, there goes another flask..." I jolted up but I lost my balance. Things felt like slow motion everything was suddenly vibrant in color. I snapped out of my trance as an unfamiliar face waved his hand infront of me. I felt arms around my waist. His face... OH GOD HIS FACE IS TOO CLOSE!

I tried to push him but instead I was the one who fell down. I faced away cause I could feel blood gushing to my cheeks. He was a little shorter than me. He was wearing a lavender top hat. The top hat that was lying on the boulder earlier. He was wearing a scarlet tuxuedo and puffy shorts.

"H-Hey! Are you alright?" He said, reaching his hand to me. I nodded and grabbed his hand to stand up.

"Yeah, thanks." I looked back at the river. Still looking so calm. Who would have thought that it's that dangerous?

"-Hey! You with me?" He said as snapped his fingers infront of me.

"Sorry... What?" He sighed.

"I said, that river is too dangerous. It may look calm but it's actually fast. We call it the Facade River." He repeated. "Here, let's do it again. This time I'll help you." He smiled.

We kneeled down and straightened my arm to reach the waters. He held my arm the whole time. I dipped the flask which was easily carried by the current if it wasn't because of his support. The flask was quickly filled with the water's speed.

"T-Thank you." I blankly said. I turned away from him. Something felt off. The atmosphere seemed to scream danger. My reflex kicked me and my hands quickly led themselves to the man's neck. Before I knew it, I was choking him.

"You-kk can let kk-go now." He gasped as I released his neck  "Atleast he still have his instincts" he mumbled.

"What do you want?" I snarled.

"Whoa, dude! Calm down. A moment ago you were shy type and all now you're getting freaky." He said as he raised his hands in defense. "I just thought I should warn you about that river. But you owe me one for saving your hand." He smirked.

Yeah. Hedid saved my hand... wait a minute.

"Actually you didn't. I saved my own hand. You just gave info about the "facade river" and that's all. I don't owe you anything." He raised an eyebrow.

"For your information I wasn't talking about the incident before I showed up. I was talking about the second time you scooped. Your arm posture was wrong. If you want to scoop at the river, you shouldn't straighten your arm. You should bent it a little because if you don't, your arm will literally be ripped off of your  shoulders." He grinned, crossing his arms. I just stood there baffled by his long explaination. But he did have a point.

"Okay fine. You win. I do owe you one." We chuckled at each other.

"Oh yeah right! I haven't introduced myself yet. The name's Chris, Chris Cloverfield." He smiled and leaned closer to me. "He was awake the whole time." He poked me on my nose and floated. "See 'ya later pal." He waved before poofing out to nowhere. I turned my head to savior's direction.

Oh shit...
