So I was about 16 months when I came to America. I am from Fiji but daddy and mummy told us we would be safe here. So we moved.

When I was 4 I was in my room playing Barbie. Then I hear the front door open, a big slam as well, I heard a voice but not daddy's. I hid under the bed in fear and border that someone was going to kill us. I was under the bed and I could hear the man walking up the stairs and yelling to my mother "where's the girl?". My mother wouldn't answer the question. "Answer me!" He yells. My mother didn't say a word. They went into my room and I was under the bed. I watched from under the bed as my mother was abused horribly. Slapped, kicked, punched. I saw her dying right in front of me. I wasn't sure where daddy was. Then I heard a click. Then a loud bang. And then I saw mum with a hole in her head. I knew she was dead. Then the man walked out of my room. I looked as he walked out and I crawled to my mum. "Mummy" I say "wake up please", I was sitting there for about 2 hours trying to wake her up but she didn't listen. Dad was sad for about 5 years. I was about 9 at this point. I still wasn't in school. Dad would talk to me about mum all the time. I loved hearing the story of how they first met.

'The year was 1983' he said 'I was about 16 and your mother was 14. I was on the other side of the lake fishing and your mother was swimming with her sister then she went under the water and I jumped in and saved her. I pulled her up out of the water and she was blue. I did SPR and she awoke 15 minutes later. I was happy after that. She went to the same school as me and from then on in we were together ever since' I love hearing that story. It had my heart melt everytime daddy told the story. Then one day daddy decided to be with mummy. And I was all alone. I had no one. The I was taken to a orphanage and that was the worst 3 years of my life. I was now 12 and I had a photo of my mum and dad in my pocket and I was only a child that had a photo of their parents.
