Elijah Hurst's POV

It has been six days since the pool incident occurred, that's also the last time I seen him. We have never crossed path again and that wouldn't be surprising considering his freaking house is big. Or should I call it mansion? Whatever.

I took a deep audible breath as I fold the paper where I wrote my little thank you message for the man who saved my life twice. It is the only way I could think of to show my gratitude. After I had constantly requested and constantly failing to pursue him to talk to me personally, well I just gave up. I just ask Veronica to give it to him as my last request.

I placed the neatly folded paper inside an envelope and set it upon Veronica's table.  I smiled sheepishly to Veronica and walk beside her with my crutch. We walk our way out with uncomfortable silence. Veronica surprising me with her quietness. I wonder why.

I couldn't think of any rational reason to stay and I don't want to take advantage of their kindness. I am more than thankful when they aid at me and gave me excessive time to recover after the accident. Which I'd like to point out that there's no one to blame but my recklessness.

"Are you sure you're leaving?" Her eyes full of motherly concern as she settled her hands in the small of my back as we descended in the enormous stairs of the front porch. She finally spoke.

"Yep, I had stayed here for more than 3 weeks. That's more than enough I think. My family might be dreadful by now. I feel horrible for not telling them I'm okay." I smile lightly holding her wrinkling hands. "I will miss you though."

She smiled at me in awe. I can't help but giggle when I spotted tears from the corners of her eyes which Veronica wiped quickly.

"Oh dear, don't be so dramatic. You are making your grandma cry" My giggle gets louder as she squeeze me into a warm hug.

My eyes instinctively move their way up into the big window at the 2nd floor of the house. Coming across with the man in suit. Leisurely drinking his glass of expensive wine. Standing proudly as his electric blue eyes look at us or me. I can't really tell from the slightly far distance between. But one thing is for sure. It is him. Keegan Averitt.

Veronica caught my attention as she softly pat my back as she talk about how she wished she had a grand-daughter like me. Which I gladly returned with a big a smile as I express how grateful I am as she takes good care of me. We had said our final goodbye when the taxi she rented for me parked near us.

I slowly walk away with a heavy heart. Not because of leaving Veronica behind but because of the realization dawning at me. I snatched a glance in the window for the last time but felt disappointed as I saw no one back there. I shake my head lightly, maybe I was just hallucinating.

I need to face ongoing problems and God knows if I can handle it. I have a lot of explanation to do to my parents and I really have no idea how will I begin it without freaking them out. Should I tell them the whole story?

Nah, I don't think so. They would book the earliest flight for me and send me back to leave with them if they knew. I should probably brainstorm some creative lies to get away with it.

I feel awful for lying. I hated it. Maybe I will just tell them the truth. Well just a tiny little bit part of the truth.
