PROLOGUE- THE GROWL

I had no idea how I had landed in an Amazon jungle, lost and with an annoying and frustrating boy. Does he ever stop scowling or is it just around me? These thoughts swam through my mind as I moved aside branches and plants, trying to find any trace of humans.

The safari group I was in, another group or any civilization, it didn’t matter. Well, it did matter if they were murderers of course.

We had been in this jungle for one and a half days and we were slowly running out of resources. Just my luck to get left behind, well I guess his too. I snuck a glance at him, seeing him gazing at the trees, no expression on his face. I quickly turned around when I realized I was staring.

I continued walking when my foot got stuck on a branch but before I could face plant on the dirty floor of the jungle, a hand grabbed my arm, preventing me from falling.

“Be careful.” He grunted. So he can speak, huh. I straightened up about to thank him when his hand froze on my arm. His action caused me to freeze as well. What did he see? We were in the middle of a jungle.

“Don’t move.” He warned me in a quiet voice and I complied, I wasn’t ready to die just yet of whatever it was. I looked ahead of me, only seeing trees, plants and colourful flowers and the brown floor of the jungle. The sun was beating down on me and with fear, the sweaty me had arrived and it intensified as we heard a deep ferocious growl behind us.
