chapter two

kenzie's pov
i pull on my red floral sundress and slip on my white vans. i add some loose curls to my hair and put a white scrunchie on my wrist to top off my whole outfit. it's 8:45 and i live about 15 minutes away so i figured i should leave. i grab my keys and yell bye to my mom and older sister maddie. i close the door to my car and drive off to the party. i look around my car making sure i didn't forget anything. "bathing suit, check phone, check i got everything," i say to myself. i pull into devinity's packed driveway and see so many teenagers with red solo cups in their hands and wet bathing suits on their bodies. i look at my phone to see it's 9:05 pm and there are already so many people here. i walk-in through the wooden gate to the pool and i sit down on an empty bench. i look around to see if devinity is anywhere near me. and then i see her with her boyfriend lucas. lucas and i have always been friends and i've never had feelings for him or anything so don't get the wrong idea. i always knew he liked devinity so i introduced them and the rest they did in their own. devinity notices me looking and waves. i get up off the bench and walk over to her, lucas, and another tall male figure.
zane's pov
i'm standing with lucas and devinity third wheeling like always. i notice devinity waving to a girl across the pool and she gets up to come over here. i see lucas wink at me and i just roll my eyes at him. the girl finally arrives to where we are and give devinity a hug. "i missed you kenz," devinity says to the pretty brown haired girl. " yeah i missed you too dev," the girl replies. her voice i beautiful i think to myself. "hey kenzie," lucas says to the girl. so her names kenzie? "hi lucas," she says back. "kenz this is zane, zane this is kenzie," lucas says introducing us. " hi," she says holding out her hand for me to shake it. "hey," i reply shaking her hand. did that sound stupid? she moves over to the other side of me probably not wanting to third wheel like me. lucas and devinity leave and go inside saying nothing to me and kenzie. i notice kenzie go sit down at an empty bench near by so i follow. "so what school do you go to?" i ask as i sit down. "sun grove high, what about you?" she questions. "i go there too, i wonder why i've never seen you?" i reply. "wait are you a junior?" she asks. "yeah. you?" i say. "yeah. that's weird we've never met," kenzie replies. "so is kenzie a nickname?" i ask her trying to get to know her. "yeah. my real name is mackenzie," she replies. "i really like that name it's pretty, but not as pretty as you." i say trying to be charming. "no. but thanks," she tells me. " wait do you have a boyfriend or something?" i ask wondering why she wont accept my compliment.
kenzie's pov
"wait do you have a boyfriend or something?" zane asks me. "no, no i'm just not pretty," i say back. " what? no way you're gorgeous," zane replies. "hmh" i slightly laugh and blush. "it's true," he says making my cheeks turn to a light pink color.
