Chapter One | Stalkers

"Have you got your skateboard?" I questioned my twin sister, Max as we begin to leave our new house.

My name's Aspen Mayfield. With my older ass of a step-brother and my twin sister, we'd moved from Cali to this shithole. Max and I weren't happy when we found out we were leaving, neither was our step-brother, Billy.

It was growing dark and Max and I decided we'd go to the Arcade and play some video games. It's something we loved to do together.

Max brings out her skateboard and closes the door, my redhead sister looked at me. "Have you got the coins?"

I patted my jacket, grinning. "Sure do. Let's go before Billy decides to yell at us again." Max nodded in agreement and we begin to skate down the street, avoiding cars and apparently wild animals.

What surprises me is that no one is walking after dark. In California, that's what everyone does.

Finally, we were at the Arcade and it seemed busy for a Sunday night. I grimace, we have school tomorrow. That's always something you wanna hear, isn't it? Note the sarcasm.

"Which game first?" Max ponders, walking around the Arcade. "Dig Dug!" She walked over to the free Arcade game and I walked behind her. 15 minutes later, Max got the high score and she smirks.

"MadMax at it again," I applaud my sister.

She flipped her hair with sass. "I'm the gaming Queen," Max jokes. "Let's go on the motorbike game, that way, we can verse each other."

"Aspen The Great is coming back!" I cheered and danced towards the motorbike, my sister laughs at me and quickly followed.

We versed each other on the bikes and I had one. I jump off the bike in victory. "Well played, sister," Max tells me. "Well played. Aspen The Great is really living up to her name, isn't she?"

"Who's MadMax?" I hear someone demand and I glanced over, there were four boys talking to an employee who was crunching on some chips. Gross. "Is it you?"

I scoffed quietly. "You know I despise Dig Dug." The Employee says.

"Then who is it?"

"Yeah, spill, Keith,"

I rolled my eyes at the ridiculous conversation before following my sister who had went off to another game and came back with a stuffed animal.

I grin at the stuffed bear. "I can't believe you won that,"

"What? It's cute," Max puts the bear right into my face and waves it arms about, using her hands and does a voice over. "I'm Mr. Bear and I love you."

I giggle and pushed the bear out of my face to see my sister staring back at me with a grin. "Don't be so silly, Max."

"Here, you can have it." She shoves Mr. Bear into my arms. Wow, Mr. Bear is one soft bear.

"Thanks," I reply sarcastically and looked at the time. "Billy's going to kill us. It's already 8.30."

"Who gives two shits about Billy?" Max rolled her eyes, her mood downing. I hate myself for bringing up Billy, it's so rare to see Max happy and I ruined it.

"I'm sorry-"

"Don't be," Max shrugged. She then looked around to see a claw game with lollies in it. "We have a dollar left, let's go."

-

Max and I slammed Billy's car door as we exited his car and ignored his ugly calls for us. It was the first day of school, and we were already getting stares as we skated across the parking lot and into the school.
