Bodies

Zombies lay, littering the dusty areana floor, surrounding the horse trailer. Its daybreak outside, the morning light flooded in from the giant arena upper shaft window, the warmth soothed my exhausted body. Dawson was fast asleep in the booth accross from me, but I just sat, staring blankly into space, unable to move, my body was caked with zombie blood, and the blood of my own, only from minor injuries of coarse, a few scrapes and cuts here and there.

Hunger surged through my stomache, making it sound similar to that of the undead, snapping me back to reality. Daxx laid on the cool surramic tile floor asleep. I looked down at him wondering if he was as hungry as I was. I stood up, stepping over my furry friend and walking to the window above the sink, were they all gone? I couldnt beleive how many of them had found us last night, amazed at their sense of smell in the dark hours of the night. Just that one cut on my arm attracted well over thirty stumbling, drooling, mushy brained zombies. I loaded another round into the M-16 and cracked open the dented door, poking the gun out first, followed by the rest of my body. "they're everywhere." I whispered to myself, taking in the veiw, corpses scattered, piled, everywhere. The smell was unbearable, like rotting animal cyarn and manuer, all mixed into one big sweaty gym sock. Gross.

I pulled my T-shirt up over my mouth and nose trying to block the stench from my nostrills, much to my avail.

"What are you doing out here alone?" I jumped at the noise, because thats exactly what it was, noise. I spun around to look at him, I rolled my eyes, lifting my hand to touch my still hot cheek, although I could'nt see myself, I knew there was a red handprint burned into my face, and I hoped he noticed it. His eyes followed my hand, but shot away quickly when he realized what I was touching. His hard stern face sofened slightly. "I'm sorry I lost my temper with you yesterday. I never meant to hurt you." He appolegized, although I didnt really care, I didnt want his apoegies, they meant nothing to me, or at least I wanted him to think they did'nt.

I stepped over some of the bodies and walked towards the door. I discusting fleshy hand wrapped itself around my ankle, and a jawless zombie attepmted to pull itself to me, although it probably wouldnt have been able to bite me, I still proceeded to put a bullet through its un-dead head, kick it off and continue to walk to the door. I shot Dawson a look over my shoulder, one that said 'I dont need a man'. He just frowned and shook his head, following behind me.

I admit it, I felt like a new woman, like if the zombie ass kicking I did last night didnt change his perspective on me, then I was done trying, I would just have to make my way back home without him. I dont need that kind of negativity in my life. I was abruptly stopped when a hand grabbed my arm, my instict caused me to push the gun barrel into the side of my attackers head, split seconds away from squeezing the trigger, only when my eyes met Dawsons I backed down. "Don't grab me like that, its a good way to get killed." I said lowly, trying to sound hard. "Yeah, right." He smirked and rolled his beautiful blue eyes, I hope he cant see what they do to me.

"I just wanted to tell you.. good work out there last night, you really are one hell of a shot." He said, but I couldnt quite figure out if it was sarcasm or not. "Umm.. thanks-" I said, "You too." I really didnt mean to compliment him, but I didnt know what else to say, he caught me off guard.

We walked back to the house without another word, he was probably kicking hisself in the ass for complimenting me, but I still had'nt forgot last night, and I wasnt gonna let it go that easily. Cold hard ramen noodles were all that was left of supper last night, what a waste. "We have a lot of work to do." Dawson calmly stated. My body felt like collapsing into the softest bed and never waking up, but I knew he would want to do the majority of the work after we ate breakfast, or luch, whatever time of day it was. "But I'm exhausted, and you must be too, lets just eat, and release the horse into the feild to graze, then we can sleep, we will do the rest tomorow.

My mouth nearly hit the floor. But we did just that, ate, let the horse out, showered, and I walked sleepily and curiously upstairs to the master bedroom with only a large T shirt and boycut undies on, when I opened the door I couldnt beleive what my eyes were seeing, A king sized bed, with red satin sheets, and that wasnt the best part- I flopped onto the softest and firmest memory foam matress I've ever felt. It was like heaven, only a bed version. It didnt take me long to fall asleep, and boy did I sleep.
