"Wake up, you're going to be late!" my mother shouted at me, she tried pushing open the door but a mountain of mess stopped her.
"Robin! What have I said about leaving mess in front of the door, now wake up!"
"I'm up! I'm up..." I yawned. I quickly put on some acid-washed jeans and a ruby blouse, adding the best ruby earings. I opened the door, my mother was in her simple work clothes.
"Hi Ma", I smiled and walked toward the door "Bye Ma".I waited out the front for what seemed like 15 minutes until I gave up hops on Abbey picking me up. Everytime a car came past I suspected it would be her. She ditched me! I was so angry I practically stomped the way to school, well, until a car pulled up next to me. I gaped at the person driving
"Well are you coming or what?" they said sarcasticly. I was definitely coming."I really appreciate the ride Lyn" I smiled at her.
"Yeah yeah, don't even worry about it"
"Hey, uh, about last night, I-"
"Let's just keep that to ourselves" she looked at me, worried that I might leak that I would tell people about the prank, or maybe about the chemistry that flew between us when we laid on the car. Either way, I wasn't planning on telling anyone. Lyn slowly cranked the radio up, a rock song I hadn't heard of blasted.Us entering the school together was surprising to many, I was this good girl hanging out with this 'rebel'. People were shocked to say the least. But not as shocked as I was when I saw the scene happening in the library. Abbey, who obviously drove herself to school was hugging Tammy whom was doing the most pathetic acting of a sob I had ever seen, and I go to the annual year musical. I felt a warmth behind me that made me shiver.
"Don't even give them the light of day" her voice was sweet like honey but as sharp as a knife at the same time.
Abbey turned around and glared at me with Lyn. She was obviously jealous, she obviously was trying to get me jealous which wasn't working. I was just thinking how fucking stupid it is to hang out with Tammy.
"Can we just go" I mumbled.
"Are you sure, you don't ha-"
"Lyn. Let's. Go." I was too angry to speak."You realise when I meant go, I meant go to class. Not ditch school!" I shouted at her. I was annoyed and stressed.
"Birdie, calm down".
"Don't tell me to calm down" I sounded childish which Lyn picked up on, it made her smirk.
The car entered a small park near the river, we parked on the river bank which had been converted to a small parking area.
I stomped out of the car, and leaned against a tree, crossing my arms like a child.
"What's wrong Birdie?" Lyn seemed smug.
I went to shove her but she grabbed both my hands and pinned then against the tree.
"First of all, don't try to pick a fight with me, second of all..." Lyn stopped and looked in my eyes. I looked back. She was beautiful. So beautiful. I felt like this was a cheesy romance movie.
Lyn let go, playing it off and laughed.
For a few moments, our faces were so close, our noses inchs from each other. I had an odd obsession with this girl, a fixation.
"Come sit" Lyn patted the soft grass next to her, we were only a few steps away from the river. I sat next to her, wanting so bad to hold her hand.
"What are your dreams?" she asked.
"My dreams? Like what I dreamt about last night?" I was honestly confused.
She giggled, "No dimwit, what are your plans for the future?"
"I guess I've always wanted to be a phsycologist? Maybe an artist? I'm not sure"
"I wanted my name in the big bright lights, on Broadway or modelling or whatever!" She lit a cigarette, "I want to be heard, to be seen, I don't want to be another girl in the world who confides by the men's rule, I want to be listened to"
I was amazed, I had never heard Lyn even sing or seen her act. She would truly get nowhere by smoking all those cigarettes.
"Hey Lyn?" I asked.
"Yeah Birdie?"
"Uh..." I lost my courage to say what I was going to say, "you should probably stop smoking"
"You should stop bossing me around" she laughed. I playfully fought with her on the riverbankLyn dropped me home, I could hear yelling from the other side of the door, best go through my window. Climbing through my window was a hard activity but talking to my parents whilst fighting was even worse. I couldn't stand it. Only after a few minutes of laying around on my bed, the telephone hooked into my room rang.
"Hello, this is Robin Maine speaking"
"Robin, it's Abbey..."
I felt shiver run down my spine from pure anger, why the hell would she call me after that whole ordeal today!
"What do you want?" I practically spat.
"I'm sorry for today, I'm just jealous of you. Jealous of your new found relationship with that new girl" I could hear her getting choked up. Lucky for Abbey, I'm the forgiving type.
"Just, forget it. It's fine" I let my heart get rid of any type of prejudice.
"Best Friends?" she asked
"Best Friends" I reassured her.
