“The first night in a hospital is always the worst’ they say but when you've done it a million times before, it becomes the norm” Star thought to herself all isolated in her room. She opened up her bag and pulled out her clothes from the last time she was there and put them in the same draw and space  “This won't be the last time you go in this draw I bet.” She whispered to her shirts.

“Now this is why you're in a mental hospital, you talk to your clothes.” A young woman entered the room with a big smiles on her face, her silver  hair was up in a bun and she wore simple makeup that covered most of her freckles and she had the most piercing blue eyes.
“I'm nurse Tibott. I'm new here but I've heard all about you” she introduced herself and reached out a hand to Star and gripped on lightly then let go, “I'll be your nurse occasionally” she added.  Star just sat there with no recollection of nurse Tibbot.

When she left, star collapsed on her bed and burst out in tears.

       “I hate this!” She screamed

Star lay in bed with her eyes closed, she wasn’t actually sleeping, just thinking.

Finally when she heard “Lights out” getting shouted down the hallway and as soon as it went all quiet, she get out of bed.

The lights went out and she was in darkness except for the window that was beside her bed. She pulled the screws holding it down out and opened up the window. She has done this many times before, but no matter what the drop down always looked terrifying.

She walked across the edge of the building until she reached the lower roof that allowed her to jump on top. Once Star was on top she saw she wasn’t the only one looking for an escape. Staring down past the edge stood a boy, his short brown hair wet, and pale body shaking. It sounded like he was crying.

“Hello?” she asked and the boy spun around in surprise. Star was presented with a tear stained face and sad blue eyes. “What happened?” she asked. It was clear the boy wasn’t alright so she skipped to the real questions.

She stayed a distance away from the boy as it seemed they wanted space being why he was isolated on a rooftop.

“Why - why are you up here?” She asked in a gentle tone, “more importantly, Why are you so upset?”

“Isn't it clear,” they replied quietly. They stood closer to the edge of the roof with a drop that seemed endless.

“Don't you think about it!”  She started to walk closer to the boy quietly and slowly “I know what you are thinking, I've been there myself. Gosh Im still there to be honest”

She grabbed their arm and pulled them gently of the ledge. “Come on, everything is going to be okay.”

The boy faced star, tears fell from their cheek on to the scruffed up trainers on their feet, their hair was soaking and his eyes were red.

They wiped the back of their hand over his cheek to wipe away the tears, and all Star could look at was what was all down their wrist, these perfectly straight red cuts and recently healed white scars.
They pulled down their sleeve to cover the scars and looked down at the floor,
“I'm - I'm Lillian.”
“That's such a beautiful name. I'm star”
She brushed the wet hair of Lillian's face and grabbed their hand gently “Come on, let's go inside and get you warm.”
