I glanced at the unconscious girl beside me drowning in her own pool of blood. I cant believe we almost made it but in a snap we're back to square one.
Everything we sacrificed have been put in vain because they caught us. He betrayed us, the whole team, he sold his teammates to the enemy to gain his freedom.
I could never forgive him, I swear to god if we survive this I'm going to kill Kai with my remaining hand. The thought of my severed hand left a bitter taste in my mouth.
I wonder if its still there, I'm sure I can still reattach it if I manage to preserve it before all the cells die down. How will I become a surgeon if I only have one hand?!?! And how will I fuck her-- oh wait no.
Idiot! That's the least of your problems for now! You cant finish your degree in the first place if you dont survive and you certainly cant live if the girl you love continue to lose blood rapidly. Think about how you're going to save her.
My mind was going through a lot of potential solutions when I heard a rustle.
"Who's there?!" I shouted.
A cold laugh echoed through the place which made me shiver.
"We found you, and you're not getting away this time." A man's voice devoid of emotion replied.
"Shit. They found us." I whispered.
I closed my left fist to my long sword and got ready to fight. "You have to kill me first, before I'll let you touch her."
The man whistled, "Is that a threat from the White King? Well, sad to say, its not even intimidating. Anyway, I could easily kill you but I'm gonna abide by the stupid battle rules. I'll kill the Queen first so I suggest you run away while you still can." He flexed his long sword while walking towards her.
"N-NO!! YOU CANT DO THAT!!" I tried my best to stand but my knees gave away. C'mon. Not. Now.
The Black King reached the unconscious girl and held his longsword high up in the air and got ready to bring it down straight to her chest. If he hits her on that spot, its the final blow. An instant death.
"YAAAAHHHHH!!!" The man shouted as he drove his sword down. I dont know how I did it. I'm pretty sure at my current physical state there's no way it was possible. Probably due to adrenaline rush, I was able to jump my way to them and covered for her just in time.
The moment the sharp long sword hit my gut I coughed out huge amounts of blood. My breathing became even more shallow than before. I felt the long sword even pushed down and every second brought unbearable pain. Its just a matter of seconds before I, too, lose consciousness. As I drift away, my memories from 2 weeks ago, before this human slaughter chess changed our lives forever, all came rushing back to me.
My mind went back to the first day of my final year in medicine. . .
