A sliver of light inched itself into the room, revealing only small patches of what could be something hostile. Cautious steps led me further into the room, eyes flickering through the darkness: sifting for clues or movement. 

"Portland PD, if anyone is in here, reveal yourself," Authority lacing itself into my voice as I voiced my command.

No reply.

More light entered the room as Nick made his way into the room as well.

I brushed past the walls, trying to find a light switch. With a breath of relief, my fingers finally found one in the dark. Bright light flooded the room, exposing book shelves and a desk. A thick wool carpet sat on the floor, seemingly darker in certain spots.

"See anything strange?" Nick's voice echoed behind me.

"Not that I can see,"

I slowly put my gun back into it's holster, glancing around the room.
