Prologue - September
"What the fu-"
"You're dating?" John cut me off. "My sister is dating my best friend."
"My best friend is dating my brother," I said out loud to myself, hoping it would sink in more as it did with John.
Isla and Chase sat quietly in front of John and I, waiting for us to calm down. I knew something was up. Okay maybe not until ten minutes ago. But as soon as Chase and I entered the diner, and Chase took my honorary seat next to Isla I knew something was up. Chase knows that John - his best friend - and I didn't exactly get along, so Chase always made sure we never made too much contact with each other. But Chase, my womb buddy, my annoying ass twin brother, was dating my best friend.
"How did this even happen?" I asked.
"I don't think I wanna know how it happened," John said from beside me.
"Oh, get your head out of your ass, Boyd. How long has this been going on?"
"About two months," Isla chirped. "We kinda got together at Benno's pool party in July." As she said that she looked at Chase and the smile on both of their faces said it all. Ugh, I couldn't be mad at them.
"Two months? You've hid this from us for two freaking months?" John booms.
Chase answered his friend the best he could: "Dude, I'm sorry, okay? I just didn't know how you'd react."
"Well, know you fúcking know!"
"Calm yourself, I can see your hairline receding," I said, "Besides, it's not the worst thing ever."
"It's not?" the three of them said almost in unison.
"Nah, not really. I mean, it's not cool that you guys lied to us, but you seem happy, so I'm happy for you guys." Isla had the biggest smile on her face and John looked like he could wring my neck. "But I refuse to talk to either of you about your sex life. Sorry Isla, you'll have to find someone else to talk about your rimming fantasies."
Isla turned beetroot red at that and Chase laughed loudly.
"I did not need to know that, Maggie!" John boomed again and I was sure he would surely wring my neck this time.
As the waitress brought us our burgers, I swore that John whispered something to Chase: "You are the biggest hypocrite ever."
