not long after the first lunch bell rang, the teenagers of baldwin high were crowding the halls, rushing and pushing so they can get the first batch of the not so good cafeteria food.

johnny didn't rush though, in fact, he took his precious time. he actually dreaded lunch with every fiber of his being, he hated the idea of being shoved into a cafeteria with a bunch of kids stuffing their faces everywhere he looked. he was jealous of them, of the way they took eating for granted.

walking right past the lunch line full of hungry kids, johnny made his way to the table where him and his friends all sat together every day since freshman year. of course, this year a few spots had been replaced considering the seniors that were sat there last there had graduated. but overall, it was the same crowd.

he sat down without a word, the only person that was there yet was aiden summett, a junior who usually brought his own lunch so he could avoid the giant line. on the other hand, he was also a really good athlete and he made sure to bring foods full of fiber, something johnny always found himself grimacing at.

"hey john," aiden says, looking up from his hardy meal infront of him.

johnny just gives a flat smile, shoving his blonde hair behind his ears while doing so. he takes a seat across form aiden, his back facing the wall so he could see if anybody was staring at him. johnny often found himself paranoid of being watched.

cutting off his thoughts, a loud and eager georgia callahan smacked her plate on the table next to johnny, scaring him out of whatever he was even thinking about.

"man i swear, it's like they ground up a bunch of bread and mix some water in it, and they call it casserole. this shits full on nasty!" she says, sitting down, looking at her tray with pure and utter disgust.

"better watch your mouth there, callahan, my mommas filling in for good old sarah lou today," alec says out nowhere, sitting down on the other side of johnny with his tray on the table.

georgia rolls her eyes, and picks up a stale bread roll and throws it across the table, missing alec of course.

"johnny, you not gonna get yourself a good ole plate of mashed dog shit?" alec says, nudging johnny on his shoulder with a smug grin on his face, having absolutely no idea of the fact that johnny hadn't been eating lately.

this just makes johnny give out a fake and forced chuckle, not being able to let anything else out, his stomach had started to hurt.

their thoughts were paused as johnny looked up to see dawson standing at the table infront of them, he hadn't said anything but he knew the look all too well. this made johnny get up from his seat quickly, and they began walking over to an abandoned corner of the cafeteria.

"johnny, i didn't see you grab a tray" he says, looking his baby brother right into his ocean blue eyes, seeing the light slowly fade from the once bright twinkle that was held there. his brother was dying.

johnny just shrugged his shoulders, staring down at his shoes, tracing the patterns of his loosely tied strings that were now hanging on the ground beside them, "it was nothing good,"

this makes dawson sigh heavily, reaching his hand behind his back so he could scratch his neck, looking around trying to find the will not to bitch his brother out, he was sensitive and dawson knew that.

"johnny im really trying here, man" he says, looking him in his eyes, irritation in his tone, "look at me."

dawson's voice was stronger now, almost demanding. johnny knew dawson would never hurt him, but he often found himself scared of his brother, for a reason he never understood.
