Katherine's heart hurt as she sat in the car, looking out at the field her teammates were already practicing on.

"You're going to be fine." Her mother told her. "It's just a practice."

"I don't think I can do it." Her voice was quiet and filled with fear and nervousness.

"Injuries happen all the time." Her mom patted her good leg in reassurance. "You'll be able to play again in a few weeks."

"I don't want to play in a few weeks. I want to play now. They're all counting on me, and the season will be over by then." Katherine whined.

"Just go." She was shooed out of the car, before slowly making her way towards her team.

"Kat! What happened?" Half of the team stopped practicing to run to her side.

"Its just a sprain." She chuckled nervously as her coach pushed his way through the crowd.

"Back to practice!" The coach barked, and the crowd scattered immediately at his order. "How long's the estimated recovery?"

"Two weeks." Katherine sighed as they sat down on the bench to watch the others. "I'm out for the rest of the season."

"Jones." He tisked at her. "Your arms still work?"

"Yes?" She was now confused.

"When we get to throwing, I want you out there practicing with the rest of your team."  Mr. Baxter told her before getting up and walking to the middle of the field to ridicule their performance.

"As she sat, she got to see the game she loved from a different point of view. It was as if she had been in a box, and was now on the outside looking in. Kat watched in wonder as she saw the team more as a whole, instead of individual parts like she was used to.

She analyzed the field as a JV player took over her usual position. She watched as the players moved in sync. Movements were clean as they passed balls around, shuffling back and forth; everyone on the balls of their feet and everyone's knees were bent.

Katherine's coach glanced at her knowingly as he ordered the girls to take a break. Katherine's teammates came over, sitting down, and chatting to each other.

Her mind raced with excitement as she thought about the decision she was about to make. She smiled as she realized that she wasn't upset about playing anymore. She loved the other side of the sport almost more than she did playing.

Next season, she wouldn't be a player anymore. She wanted to learn coaching.
