I flew back from Lauryn's blast and slid quite a distance. I quickly got on my knees and bounced up, but Lauryn wasn't at the stairs anymore. I looked behind me to see the RP's had entered the elevator. I ran back to the stairs and headed up them, making it to the next floor. This floor was almost pitch black with curtains and no lights, but I saw Lauryn glowing red over a couple aisles of more cabinets.
I ran around them and jumped over another row to be right behind Lauryn. I had the red light in my hand as well, ready to attack, but Lauryn spun around and looked me in the eyes. Her normal slightly red eyes shone at me, and I stopped in my tracks. I froze, then a small grin overtook her face.
"Oh Jeffrey, you're still too weak to save your friends?" Her voice rang out, the first time I've heard her voice in years.
"Still too weak to save me."
That time her voice sent chills through my body, as it seemed like she had backing vocals. Which made it just ring through my head. I couldn't move, but she dramatically turned away from me, heading straight for the elevator. Her finger glowed red and she touched the elevator button. As she did that, the entire elevator shaft started glowing red and then I could move. I yelled and ran at her with my fist held high. She gave me a side eye as she quickly moved out of the way last second and tripping me.
I laid on the ground as I heard screaming from the elevator. I lifted myself onto my knees and looked at the elevator. Lauryn was gone. I heard scraping from the elevator, and then the door starting bending. A metal claw came out, surprising me, then the door fully ripped off and revealed Dr. Roberto. One of his inventions to save the day.
The other RP's walked out of the elevator with minor injuries.
"You guys aren't hurt?"
"Not really," Jenny responded.
"She must be planning something if she didn't kill us," Dr. Roberto said.
As soon as he finished that statement, the entire floor shook, and we held onto some of the cabinets for stability. I ran over to the window, pulling the blackout curtain away, and the light of dusk shined in. I looked around and spotted Lauryn, floating a little ways from the building. She looked at me with bright red eyes, then she waved her hands towards a couple of floors below us, and red light shot at the skyscraper. She was going to take out the entire building.
I ran back to the RP's and filled them in and tried to think of a game plan. I found myself panicking a little bit though.
"Do you think a gateway can save us?" William asked.
"Possibly, but we have to be prepared for the worst."
As I looked around for a game plan, I remembered why we were on this floor. I took off, finding the G aisle and analyzed the cabinets. Eventually, I found Reginald Gilgood and I reached for it. However as I reached for it, the cabinets started sliding. I also noticed the building tipping. I wanted to open Rex's file, so I rushed at it, holding onto the cabinet, but the row of cabinets next door slid towards me. I kept my hand on the handle and got on top of Rex's cabinet.
The other row of cabinets slid towards my hand, as I tried to budge the cabinet open, but I was at a weird angle. The building was tipping increasingly more, and everyone else was clinging onto cabinets or the elevator. I finally got Rex's cabinet open and I reached my other hand in to grab anything, but then the row of cabinets sliding towards me suddenly sped up and closing the cabinet on my hand.
I screamed as I fell on my bottom and sat for a second. I then pushed against the row of cabinets with my foot and yanked my hand out, where my wrist was scratched and bleeding. Rex's cabinet quickly closed and there was no way I was getting into it again. I found myself sliding backward as the building was practically falling at this point. The building was getting close to being mostly horizontal.
Suddenly, the building stopped and an audible crash was heard. It must've hit another building, and as it did, it caused an aftershock to hit the building and shake some cabinets over, falling onto the glass the surrounded the room and shattering it. Some of the RP's screamed as they were down by where the window was.
The building was gradually sliding downward still though, and I knew we didn't have long before we went tumbling towards the earth. I looked towards the broken window and saw the streets below. I also noticed the wall was starting to crack. The cabinets were just slowly sliding towards the wall, so I took the chance to get to Rex's again. It was stuck closed from the other cabinets, so I got on top of that one and tried to use gravity to flip it over.
It took a few shoves, but eventually, I used momentum to flip it over and send it tumbling towards the broken window.
"Heads up!" I yelled down.
The cabinet hit the wall, and it cracked through, causing part of the wall to break apart and fall. The building also creaked and went down further. We were running out of time.
I quickly got around and opened Rex's cabinet, and took a peak in. Then someone's hand rested on my shoulder. The black figure that we've seen on our journeys was standing right behind me. The figure stood there for a second, then the black color seemed to melt away and I gasped. Standing there was Rex himself with literal fire in his eyes. His grip on my shoulder was strong.
He then quickly grabbed my neck with his other hand, starting to choke me and I panicked a little. I kicked at him but he wasn't flinching. He then shoved me against his file cabinet, he grinned and then pushed. His push sent me and the cabinet over the other cabinets and straight down towards the broken window. I could barely breathe as he had pushed directly at my neck, but I could see him as he stood and watched me fall.
I summoned some of the hellfire and threw it at him, but he raised his hand and deflected it. It was my last try. I couldn't even scream or yell because my neck felt crushed. As I fell through the hole where the window once was, Dr. Roberto and Jenny were holding on right next to it. They saw me and yelled but everything was muted. I looked at them and found tears coming out. I was shocked but glad I could produce tears for my last moment.
I closed my eyes and held onto that cabinet as I descended toward the street below.
But then my arm almost got ripped from the socket as the cabinet continued falling, but I didn't.
"You ain't going anywhere on my watch," Dr. Roberto said.
I opened my eyes to see Dr. Roberto holding onto my arm. I noticed he wasn't being held up by anything, and then realized both of his legs were gone and replaced with rockets. He was flying.
"What happened to your legs?" I said weakly.
"Oh, yeah, I'm an android now. We can talk about it later. Now we gotta save the RP's!"
He flew me back up towards the now horizontal buildings and dodging the continued rainfall of file cabinets. Dr. Roberto stopped midway and I questioned what was wrong. I looked up and noticed the entire top half of the building, where the RP's were, was now falling towards us. We looked at the building in horror and I spotted Lauryn and Rex floating a little ways away. Then they disappeared, and I found myself tearing up again.
As the building approached Dr. Roberto and me, the familiar bright light shone below us. Dr. Roberto looked at me, then his rocket legs turned off and folded away, revealing his normal feet, whether they were metallic or not. We fell into the gateway with new found information.
