Starting it off with good ol' Duncan & Courtney.
I shipped them in Total Drama Island. Even if he kissed her right after she puked and didn't seem bothered by it. It certainly does bother me now that I think about it. Yuck.
Still, I loved their screen time together, full of angst yet tender moments. So yeah, I did hate Harold a bit for what he had done. Still, it didn't stop Duncan from thinking about Courtney even when he carved the back of her wooden head in a challenge. Creepily cute. And thus, I loved the concept of Duncan and Courtney.
But, then Courtney's character development started to go downhill in Total Drama Action. Like, come on girl? Those whole set of rules she created for Duncan to memorize. Let's be real, ain't no one want a relationship like that. Where you're limited to being the kind of person your significant other WANTS you to be. Duncan was right to vote her off, I'm sorry. She was being real annoying.
Now they do get back together in the Celebrity Manhunt episode, despite having broken up earlier prior to their journey in beating Total Drama Dirtbags. Thus, the two are together by the time Total Drama World Tour starts.
(Did you all see how Duncan carries Courtney's backpack in the opening of the first episode in TDWT? That's cute, I guess.)
Yet again, Courtney is still so possessive and bossy over Duncan which is why he lost interest in her, and started to developing an interest for Gwen.
And then in the middle of Total Drama World Tour, he comes back after leaving in the first episode, so let's look at the episode titled Ex-Files. (According to TD wiki)
"At the beginning of the episode, Courtney sits with Gwen on a sofa, gushing over Duncan's attractiveness and how happy she is since he's returned. She then states that he still isn't perfect yet, emphasizing this point by pulling out a list of Duncan's supposed "flaws" that she plans to rectify."
Okay, maybe he did bring out the bad in her and she bought out some form of goodness in him but overall, I do not ship the two as much as I did as a little kid. Polar opposites do attract but what good is that if Courtney was just trying to change Duncan to fit the persona that SHE wanted Duncan to be.
Overall, I just don't like this ship anymore as much as I used to. It was somewhat toxic. They're both toxic to and for each other; Duncan didn't officially breakup with Courtney when he pursued Gwen, and Courtney was too controlling of him which lead to his disinterest and disobedience.
I do think maybe if Courtney's character development was better, and Duncan was a better man (i.e not cheat on her with Gwen but instead break up with her like a civilized human being,) then yeah I'd have shipped them 'til the endgame. But nope, I do not ship the two anymore.
(I would also like to state that Courtney does start to go a bit "crazy" in her development throughout the seasons, but Duncan also had a pretty lame character development in Total Drama All Stars. Nonetheless, let me be frank, I HATE that season. It's only tolerable to me because of AleHeather.)
P.S. COURTNEY ALWAYS KICKED DUNCAN IN THE GROIN. 'NUFF SAID.
