Lucille's P.O.V
Newsies forever.
That's what Jack always told me.
We'd always be united.
Jack Kelly actually taught me a lot of things.
The cold rain wets down my jet black hair.
I have nowhere to go.
In the refuge, Jack was the only one I trusted.
Till he escaped on the back of Roosevelt's carriage.
I was eaten alive without him to defend me.
I saw a few things a girl my age SHOULDN'T have seen.
Three silhouettes appear in the moonlight.
I glance at the scars on my arm.
Not him...
Snyder stands over me.
"Hello, Lucille."
I run.
My boots slosh through the cold mud.
I'm almost positive they're in pursuit.
I crash into a pile of newspapers and two trash cans.
A light flicks on.
Great.
One of the men grabs me and kicks my leg.
The pain surges through my whole body.
A tall, dark haired boy runs sleepilly out the doorway.
"What's going on?"
Snyder steps forward.
"Pardon, sir. I'm with the refuge, and this escapee is running away."
He prods me with a leather shoe.
The boy stares sympathetically at me.
"Oh, Snyder. This poor girl."
Snyder seems to remember something.
"Jack Kelly. It's been a while."
He grins.
Jack?
But how could it be him?
"Now, Snyder. You oughta' know ah'm not letting you take her back."
"I'll just take you instead!"
He lunges at Jack, grabbing his arms, wrestling him to the ground.
By now, more boys were emerging from the building, at Jack's side.
One had an eyepatch, one very young, and one who looked almost like a... girl?
Finally, one lonely boy limped out, leaning on a wooden crutch.
Shaggy, dirty blonde hair, brown eyes, tan-ish skin.
Handsome, the lot of them.
Snyder throws Jack down, and backs away
The one on the crutch hobbles out in front of Jack.
"Over my dead body."
Snyder laughs to himself.
"Easy kill."
With that, he kicks the crutch away, and the boy falls, onto the wet, muddy concrete.
The boys explode into a rage, one acting as a human crutch for the poor boy.
Jack grabs his collar and leans close.
"Touch Crutchie again, and not even your momma will recognize you when I'm done."
He roughly releases him.
"I'll have all you scrawny boys thrown into the refuge one by one!"
Jack grabs my hand and pulls me up.
"You'll have to catch us first!"
And we run.
Around the building, and in another door.
It's a cozy place, a little water pump in one corner, crates everywhere. A brick fireplace lights the entire room. A steel staircase led to an upstairs room, probably sleeping quarters.
The boys ran inside, sitting on the wood floor.
The boy they call Davey, is laying the crippled boy on a small rug.
I sit awkwardly behind Jack, and the crippled boy winks at me.
Did he actually?
I blush and look away.
My vision begins to blur, and I black out.
The last thing I see is Jack scooping me up, and the boys cooing and swooning over, laughing so hard I thought they would start choking.
I finally found where I belong.
((So here's the OFFICIAL one! Hopefully I can post another chapter of this one!))
