CORBYNS HERE
i'm hiding in the break room till you're here

;

i sat in the break room, sipping my coffee as i waited for ari.

"girl let's do this thang!" i heard ari yell as she made her way to the back.

"oh and your boyfriends here." ari winked, taking a sip of my coffee. "hey! first of all that's my coffee. and second, he's not my boyfriend!"

i yell rather loudly.

"chill lor, i'm just joshing around with you." ari smiled, placing her hand on top of mine. "you know i love you babe."

babe. a nickname ari and i had for each other. i liked it, but sometimes i wondered if it was gonna get confusing. you know, when we get boyfriends, however far in the future that is for me.

"i know i know. i love you too babe." i returned the smile then scrunch my nose at her.

"now come on, we got an open mic to host." ari grabs my hand and drags me behind her.

"good evening ladies and gentlemen! welcome to hugga mug's first ever 'open mic' !"

jill spoke into the mic stand that was placed in the center of a small stage we had made; a stage including a stool, guitar stand, and a tiny spotlight.

"thank you all for coming out on this lovely friday night. i'm jill, the manager and mother of the two young ladies who put this whole thing together." she smiled, everyone's eyes were on her.

jill decided to introduce herself, and 'warm the audience' as she called it.

"actually, could we all put our hands together for lorelai, she was the one who came up with the whole open mic idea." jill smiled, directing her hands toward me, with everyone's eyes following.

and soon, everyone's eyes were all on me.

frozen.

that's all i did. i couldn't get any words out.

i hide behind ari's back, hating being on spotlight.

some people start to snicker, which makes my stomach churn.

"ok well let's get this whole thing started, right?" ari claps her hands together, catching everyone's attention back to jill.

(we had a sign up list earlier in the day, which was a jill's idea. the first five or six slots are already filled, which means we have some time to kill before we have to improvise.)

i ran to the employee bathroom, locking the door. i wanted jill to open because obviously i can't talk in front of big audiences.

there was a knock on the door.

"ari, i'm fine. just go out there with your mom."

another knock.

"ari i said i'm fi-" i whipped open the door to see corbyn.
