"I swear I didn't do it, dammit!"
"Ms. Castillo, we have your fingerprints all over the scene and witnesses say you were the last to leave the resident. Now explain to us how we are to believe that three people are dead, three people who you were last seen with, and you didn't do it. Make that make sense!" The detective yelled.
They had some good cop, bad cop scheme going on, I picked that up when the other detective slapped his hand on the desk, making me flinch slightly.
"Castillo, my partner here wants an explanation. I don't. I couldn't give less of a damn what you have to say. You were caught. End of story."
"I think not." A woman's voice sounded when the door opened. I looked up at her and her eyes were set on the men before me. "Philips, Goyard. Nice to see you again, boys." She walking into the room further.
"Jackson... what a surprise." One of the detectives sarcastically replied.
The woman, Jackson, held her hands out and like clockwork, the key to my handcuffs were placed into her hands. She uncuffed me as she spoke, "You boys charged her yet?"
"No, b—"
"Aht, aht. No charge, no hold." She stated with a slight chuckle. "Basic rules, gentlemen. We should know better than this by now. Should I speak with your Captain or should I just take my client home and pretend this didn't happen?"
She looked between both of the men, then finally, one of them spoke up. "Jackson, the last time I took your ass to court, we won." He said.
"So you want to go to court with this?"
He confidently stated his challenge, "We are taking this to court. Expect a formal arrest in the morning."
"ExPeCt A fOrMaL aRreSt iN ThE MorNiNg." She mocked. "Ms. Castillo, let's go." She said already moving.
I got up and followed behind her. "Thank you, Ms. Jackson." I said lowly as we walked out the police station with all eyes on us.
"Ms. Castillo, thank me when this is all over. Until then, I haven't done my job." She said.
We walked up to man who opened the car door for us. "Where are we going?" I asked.
Her head spun around and for the first time, we made eye contact with me. "I'm Janet Jackson, I'm your lawyer. I am your best friend now. I am your diary, your confidant, your fixer. We are going to my office where I will dig into every last thing about you all whilst you tell me things I can't find. Well, think I cannot find. It is nice to meet you, Alexandria Castillo."
Her hand laid out in front of me, waiting for a shake.
"I don't know you." I said. "You could be a horrible lawyer, plus that guy just said you lost your last case." I pointed out from earlier.
"I lost because quite blatantly in court, my client admitted to his crimes of killing her three year old."
I sharply inhaled. "You defended a child murderer?"
She stuck her hand out further. "And now I'm defending a normal murderer, call me crazy."
I put my hand in hers. "I didn't do it." I stated as we shook hands.
"Good to know. Let's go."
"Mio Signore, in cosa mi sono messo?" I said to myself. [My Lord, what have I gotten myself into?]
