I walked into the sun filled kitchen and saw the love of my life sitting at the kitchen table, reading a newspaper and drinking his afternoon coffee. I smiled to myself, Dean was completely oblivious to the fact that I was there, “God he looks so handsome today” I mused as I walked up behind him and placed my lips against his neck, excitement coursing through me as I remembered the news I had for him today. I felt the muscles in his cheeks move as he smiled and turned to face me “Babe you’re home” he brushed his lips against the scruff on my cheek before he pulled me into his lap with a quick swish and kissed me full on, letting our lips mingle for a moment as though he was savoring each second of it. It felt like a blissful eternity before he finally pulled back from me, planting a kiss on my nose. “How did work go today Cas?” I grinned at him my excitement washing over me “Work went great today.. Oh but Dean you’ll never guess who called!” Dean looked at me with an incredulous look in his eyes “And who would that be hmm?” I grinned at him and let out a shaky breath “Ellen from the Adoption Agency, we passed the screening and they already have a potential match for us.” I paused watching for what Dean’s response would be. He just looked at me for a moment, realization flooding into his eyes before a soft gasp escaped his lips and he pulled me into him, kissing me hard and tender. “Cas, we’re gonna be parents.” He whispered in my ear as he nuzzled his face against my neck. I chuckled softly and let it all sink in. This was it; it was what we had been waiting for, for almost a year and a half now. I got up, leaving his warm embrace as I pulled out my cell-phone, “Now I know that we told Ellen that we were looking to adopt just one for the time-being, but she has a set of the most beautiful twins Dean. They’re only a few days old, their mother decided on a closed adoption. Their names are Alex and Ava ” I turned my phone to him to show him the picture Ellen had sent me before. Dean stood up and gingerly took the phone from my shaking hands and looked, I wrapped my arms around his waist and stood behind him, looking at the picture. The photograph showed a baby girl and a baby boy, each swaddled up in the lightest shades of pink and blue. They both had the lightest wisps of blonde hair atop their heads and I felt my heart swell in my chest as I took the sight in again. “Well..” I murmured to him, “What do you think?” When Dean turned to look at me his eyes were misty “Oh Cas, Cas they’re beautiful.” He gave me a half-smile before looking back down at the image once more. “Did Ellen say when we could come meet them, and bring them home?” He looked back up at me, wiping his eyes as he spoke. “She said we could arrange a day a week from now, so that we have enough time to pick middle names and fill out all of the official paperwork and also let people know” I smiled at him as I watched the face of the strongest man I knew crumple in pure joy as the tears flowed freely from his face. I pulled him into my embrace, although I was better at hiding it, I knew exactly how he felt. I let him nuzzle his face into my shoulder as he regained composure. Once he finally did he pulled away from me, “Cas this is just so unexpected and I just, well you know how I feel about it all.” He smiled nervously at me and I reassured him “Dean, you’re going to be a great dad. They are going to love you I swear by it. If they get anything from me it’ll be that they love you with all of their hearts.” I smiled at him and saw a twinkle in his pretty green eyes. “And I know they’ll love you” then he broke into a grin “I mean who wouldn’t?” I shook my head at him and walked over to steal a kiss. As it ended we held each other’s gaze and I think that from that moment on we knew our dreams were finally coming true, we were starting our family and I knew there was no other man I’d rather start it with, than him.
