i read across the checklist on my clipboard making sure everything needed for the race week was in the vans that were headed for chicago. it was quite the simple job and paid good, and although it could become boring at times, i loved traveling across the country and getting to see races every weekend.

"knock knock!" millie called knocking on the van door before climbing inside.

"hey!" i said looking up from list at her. millie was a make up artist for nbc and made sure all of the commentators were camera ready. she started at the same time i did, and we quickly became friends.

"everything ready to go for this weekend?" millie asked peering over my shoulder down at the list in my hands. millie was a giant, an easy 5'10 to my 5'0.

"we are more ready than ever" i said looking up at my friend with a proud grin.

"so how'd you spend your off day yesterday?" millie asked leaning her back against the cages that held the equipment.

"not sure you'd believe me if i told you" i said shaking my head with a chuckle while crossing my arms.

"hmm try me" millie said snapping her gum between her teeth.

"i found ryan blaney passed out on my front lawn with one shoe, with drool rolling down his chin like an old dog." i said amused remembering the events of yesterday in my head. millie's eyes grew wide and she leaned forward interested.

"alright now you're just pulling my leg." she said standing tall and waving off my words.

"millie i couldn't make this up even if i tried."

"ryan blaney?", she questioned me, her brow raising,"curly haired, blue eyed, penske dream boat ryan blaney?" i nodded.

"yes, that exact one." she smirked at me, and i didn't have to think twice to know some evil thought was in her head.

"well hes a cute one for sure, but i bet theres some other driver you wish to find on your front lawn" she spoke all too amused and i already knew what she was hinting at.

"don't say it." i warned pointing a finger at her.

"jallie and alex sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g!" millie sang obnoxiously and i hit her arm with my clipboard making her yelp.

it was no secret that i had a huge ass crush on alex bowman, and millie teased me about it all the time. id only ever spoken to alex once, and i doubt her remembered mine at all, but something about how he looked at me with that wide smile and dazzling eyes just melted my heart.
