A Couple Weeks Later

Vince was pacing around the studio. His song was missing something but he didn't know what.

"Nigga, you gotta relax." Kay said watching him go back and forth.

She was taking her braids out while he walked back and forth making her dizzy.

"What you need is some soul on that record. A couple ooh's and ahh's." She said.

Vince agreed but didn't know who to call.

"Aye, Amber 'bout to come up here and do my hair. Ask her to sing for you." Kay suggested.

"Oh bet." He said.

"And you might wanna ask her for a cut too." She said. "Don't your mom get out of rehab tomorrow? Might wanna freshen that shit up."

"Shut up!"

"I'm just saying but call her first cause you know how she be." She said.

"Aight." Vince said as he pulled out his phone.

He called Amber and put it on speaker as he sat down by the controls.

"What you want Vince?" She answered.

"Damn. Hi, how are you?" He said.

"Vince, you only call when you want something. Usually you just text so what's up?" She said.

"I just need some background vocals on a song I gotta send to my manager. My part already laid I just need some soul behind it." He said.

"Okay, I'm on my way to the studio to do Kay's hair anyway." She said.

"Oh and another thing. Can you line me up?" He asked.

He waited for an answer but she hung up and he smiled. He knew she would do it.

Vince played his part of the song over again. He wanted it perfect. His now manager Corey, set him up with a chance to feature on a Common song and he could get signed so he wanted everything to go right.

A half an hour later Amber walked in the studio. Vince turned around and smiled. Amber rolled her eyes.

"Imma do her hair and then the record the background." She said getting the stuff she needed for Kay's hair. "You can play the track."

"What about my hair cut?" He asked.

"I'll do it last. I know you wanna look good for your mama." She said teasing and Kay laughed.

Vince shook his head and played what he had on repeat for her. After about an hour she finished Kay's hair and then she went in the booth. She laid her vocals like it was nothing in one take and then did a safety.

"Good for you?" She asked.

"Great." Vince said smiling.

She came out the booth as they played the track over. She went to grab her clippers. Kay and Vince switched seats.

"So I was talking to my mom." Amber said as she started on Vince's cut. "She wants to meet your mom."

"Why?" Vince asked.

"My mom has a ten year sober chip." She said. "She knows your mom is gonna need someone to talk to and she is hoping to be that."

"That's some beautiful shit." Kay said.

"I'll let my mom know." He said as she finished his cut.

Vince couldn't believe that his mother was back in his life. Of course he's been with her a lot over the past few months but now they would all be under the same roof. Vince couldn't even remember a time when he lived with his mother. He was so young when everything happened and they left.
