l Summary l
Sole has just found out about Shaun being the leader of the institute and realised just how much they missed while he was growing up. How much they must have mistreated him as a child. It broke them. It was a late night when they got back, not being able to stand, only being able to try to hope that it was a nightmare. Preston was there to help them until the sun shone on Sanctuary Hills for another day.
All genders can read, mostly Preston's POV, sole does not do much talking.
l Story l
Sole was rarely shaken up over much after about a month in the commonwealth. But a while after that, when they finally reached the institute, Preston had never seen them worse. When they got to sanctuary she practically collapsed at the bridge. Luckily preston was doing a few quick patrols and saw it happen. He rushes over, panicked, not only was this the general, it was the one who had given him hope in the darkest of his days, he loves them.
Preston POV
"General!" I shouted seeing them collapse. Dread filled my heart with the single thought of what may have happened. Running over, though, they were breathing, sitting on their knees. I was shocked, I didnt understand, they were shaking and sobbing.
'Damnit, preston this isnt the time to be worrying like that! Help them!'
I was frozen for a second but quickly enveloped them in a hug, coming down onto the ground with them.
"General... what... what happened?" I was almost too scared to spit it out but I hoped that it would help.
"My son" Sole tried to speak but it just made them sob harder and grip onto the back of my jacket. My heart broke at those two words, something happened to Shaun and it was all because of that damned institute. I can be mad later, Sole needs me, or, someone.
"Sole..." I tried to think of what to say, I only now realised just how cold and dark it was outside.
'Ah, I gotta get her inside!'
"Come on, let's get you to your house" as I helped sole back to her house I decided she needed to sleep, a lot. As we were walking in, their sobbing slowly lessening, they said it,
"My son is over 60 years old, he", they choked out, "hes the owner of the institute" they covered their mouth to muffle more heart-tearing cries afterwards. I didnt know what to say, or even if their were correct words in the vocabulary to do so.Third Pov
He did what he thought was right, he sat on the couch with them, holding them through their cries and anger, giving them reassurance and comforting little touches. Soon enough the general slowed their sobs to just hiccups and little tears that were leftover. It was now getting into early morning and neither if them had slept that night. Preston was going to make sure Sole fell alseep safe near him, preferably in his arms. He didnt want to ever see them hurt again. The fact that something like that would happen to a soul so undeserving made him question what they ever did to deserve that. Though, while he wasnt paying attention, the general had done just what he wanted. Their breaths slowed, the only tears remaining were the ones dried on their cheeks, and they had leaned onto him. The sun was on the brink of rising, it's dark, dull, yet scenic glow on Sole's face gave his heart a little rest. Their face looked beautiful in the lighting. He kisses their forehead and, only then realizing how worn out he was, makes sure their comfortable in his arms, and falls asleep with them.
