Excitement and curiosity didn't give me peace as I tried to fall asleep. I was rolling on the bed and whispering to myself. In my head I have a list of possible reasons why dad called me and why he didn't tell me the reason for that. I turned on the phone to see how many hours it was. 2 am.
"Already?!"
I turned to the other side of bed, closed my eyes, and with all my might, I tried not to open them until morning.
A mobile phone ringing woke me up. I lazily stretched out my hand to him and answered.
"Hello?"
"Get up, Ev, we'll be late!" Replied dad's voice (He usually has a habit to wake me up on that way).
I quickly dressed up and went down the stairs to the kitchen. Dad already had a cup of coffee, and now he was waiting for me with the keys in his hands.
While driving, we did not talk much to each other. He talked to someone over the phone again (I think with the same person as yesterday) and asked for the way to our destination. I played some video game. After a while, the car stopped and dad cheerfully said, "We're here!".
The place where we arrived wasn't familiar to me. There was a small meadow, with most of the sun's yellowish grass. On the side there was a lovely white building with two entrances. At the first entrance was a "vet" sign, and on the other, who also led to the greater part of the building - "dog pound". I heard the bark of dogs.
My breath stopped for a moment and I looked at dad, who was smiling.
"You are a very good and responsible girl, Eva, and I think you deserve to have a friend who will always love and keep you."
I kissed and hugged him, whispering, "thank you, thank you!" I didn't leave him alone until I heard the sound of someone's shoes on the floor. I turned my head and saw a nice smiling woman in a dark blue uniform with a mark of the paws approaching us. She handshaked with my dad and then she turned to me:
,,Hello, dear! Would you like to see doggies and choose which one you want?"
She took me to a long string of cages in which they were dogs jumping and barking. I walked past them and looked at their little eyes which looked at mine. In which I saw the desire for a new home. At that moment I wanted to adopt every dog, from the smallest to the largest.
And then in one of the cages I saw a small dark furball lying hidden in the corner. It was the doberman puppy, whose black and somehow lifeless fur faded in some places. It had a wound on its chest. Like a tail, its ears were little cut, but I noticed a smaller cut below the outside border, as if someone wanted to cut its ears, but he did not fully succeed. As soon as it saw me, the puppy ran to me and shyly pushed its muzzle through the grate. In the meantime, dad and women came.
"This beautiful girl came to us a few months ago. Her past owner beat her and harassed her since she was born. He probably wanted to make her an aggressive dog for fights. He tried to chop her ears, but he was prevented and arrested because he didn't have a veterinarian's license to do something like that. In order not to get an infection, we trimmed her ears and docked her tail. So far, whenever she saw an unknown one, she would have run into the corner where you probably found her. You're the first person she came to.'' She explained.
Then, I knew that I wanted her, and I said it out loud.
Women took her out of the cage and I held her in my arms. I held that little, sweet creature that licked my hand all the time. Shaking by happiness and softeness, the eyes of full tears, I whispered: "Dad, she's perfect!".As we were driving back, I was pampering my new friend and I wondered is this a feeling we have in paradise.
"Sweetheart, that woman says the pup hasn't gotan official name yet.", dad stopped my thoughts, "How would you want her to be called?"
After a while, I answered briefly: Rea.
