They sat the machine on the tracks and all fastened their makeshift seatbelts. They pulled the sail up, and almost as if it was planned, a big gust of wind blew, and they started moving. The boys all cheered as they were carried across the tracks.
The wind blew them like that for almost an hour, when they heard the distinct noise. Usually it brought them joy, but not at this moment. HONK! HONNNKKKK! The train was coming up behind them. They couldn’t hear it because of the sound of the waves crashing. Jake spoke up.
“Guys we need to jump out. Jump out into the water on three. One! Two! Thre-”
BOOM!! The train smashed into the makeshift automobile. The automobile shattered into pieces, and the boys went flying into the water. It took the train about ten minutes, but it came to a stop. The driver jumped out and ran back toward the boys.
“Hello! Are you guys here!?” he yelled. There was no reply. He then saw one of the boys floating in the water. He ran into the water and carried the boy out. It was Henry. The man laid Henry on the side of the track and looked for the rest of the boys. He found them laying partly submerged in the water on the other side of the train. He carried them one-by-one over beside Henry, and checked their pulse. Jake. Good. James. Good. John. Good. Henry……
The police went to the train tracks, and the news reported the event.
“A young boy was killed by a train this morning, and three other boys severely injured. The train driver said they were riding in a little machine that they must have built.” Jessica watched the news in tears, and said,
“My baby!”
