Elevator for two

Our school was pretty big. It had at least six floors, which is why the school has an elevator. Pretty cool, right. There was an after school dance today and it ended at 5:30pm. I had an after school program today and it started at 5:40pm and ended at 6:30pm. I was way to tired to go down a bunch of stairs right now, so after my program meeting was over, I headed to the elevator and waited for my turn to go down.

As I walked in, a guy my age ran towards the elevator and tried to reach the door before it closed.

"Excuse me, can you please hold it open?!" He yelled while trying to sound as polite as possible.

I put my hand in front of the door as he walked into the elevator.

"Thank you." He said with a bright smile.

I start to get cold because I was wearing short sleeve red shirt with black shorts in this freezing elevator. He must've noticed because he handed me his blue jacket and I thankfully took it and put it on

I go on this elevator every school day and I never see him on it. But I know we have some classes together, so why all of a sudden would he take it now?

"Do you normally take this elevator?" I asked while glancing at his somewhat attractive face.

"Actually...I don't. I have a little phobia of them. I just took it this time because I was going to be late to my meeting."

Another late meeting?!

"What's it for?" I ask.

"Just an after school leadership club. You should join." He says with that same bright smile.

Me? A leader? Sure I'm responsible, opened minded, smart, and somewhat loud, but I never thought of myself as a leader.

"I don't know if being a leader is my thing." I said while the door began to close again.

"What floor?" I asked while trying to change the topic.

"Floor five please." He Replied.

"My name is Jay by the way."

Although I already knew his name I pretended not to. I'm a pretty observant person.

"I'm Nya."

"Nice to meet you." He says happily.

"Same here."

He pulls his phone out of his pocket and put it in front of me.

"Here." He signaled me to grab it.

It had our school website on it with all the facts about the leadership club. The time, the place, the requirements, and the activities. To be honest, it looked very fun and something I would want to join.

"I don't know. It's a maybe for now." I finally say.

"Okay, but there's a-"

He was interrupted by the crashing sound of the elevator.

"W-What just happened?!" He shrieks.

"I'm sure it was nothing, probably just a little hiccup." I reply trying to not freak him out.

But before he could reply, the elevator goes flying down, and before he could scream I grab his arm and make him grab onto me so we could sit down while holding onto each other while the elevator rapidly crashes down.

When the elevator stops I look at him, while still holding onto him, and can see him shaking with fear.

"It's over now. We're not dead, but we are at the wrong floor."

Instead of replying he let's go of me and runs to the bathrooms, and out of fear for him, I wait outside and hear him throwing up.

When he finally comes out I take his hand.

"Are you going to be okay?"

"Yah, thank you for comforting me." He smiles but it wasn't as bright as before.

I let go of his hand.

"Thank you for the jacket." I reply while taking the jacket off and handing it to him.

"No problem."

We continue to talk for a bit until he looks at his phone.

"Oh no! Aren't you supposed to be at your leadership meeting?" I say out of the blue.

"It's okay. Before I left the restroom, they sent me a text that it was canceled today."

"Oh, alright."

"Do you need a ride?" He asks with that bright smile from before.

"Are you sure?" I ask surprised.

"Only if you join the club." Now his eyes lit up.

"Alright, I guess I will." Our eyes locked.

"Great!"

I followed him to his car, and while in it I told him my address, and he told me a little bit about him, and I told him a little bit about me.

As he dropped me off I wanted to tell him one more thing.

"So, I don't think I'll use elevators for awhile."

"Welcome to the club." He laughs.

"I'll see you tomorrow Jay."

"Okay, bye Nya."

"Bye."

I Can't wait for tomorrow.
