I can see the car at the opposite end of the car park. Groaning I get a grip on the trolley and start toward the car. I just make it to the bottom of the ramp before the trolley hits something solid. I watch as the bags roll out and the contents spill onto the path.
Great.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry, I didn't see you there! Here let me help you."
The girl from before squats down and begins picking up the ingredients and putting them back into the bag. Quickly I squat next to her.
"No no, that was my fault. I wasn't looking."
I study her face. She's really pretty and I can't bear the thought of never seeing her again.
We load the trolley again in silence, luckily not an awkward one.
"Hey, let me make it up to you." I said once we had done. We stand up and I straighten my shirt.
"You don't have too, I'm sure there are other things you need to get done." she says.
"well, I have to drop this off at home. But then maybe I can take you to the milkshake bar on the main street?"
I smile and she nods.
"Sure. Let's exchange numbers."
We give each other our numbers and she helps me put everything in the car.
"Thanks and sorry again for running into you!" I say. She smiles and waves it off.
"Dont be, I'm Rose by the way."
Rose. The mysterious girl has a name.On the way home I get a call from my older brother.
I put the phone on Bluetooth so it plays through the car.
"Where are you?"
"Hi Jake, nice to hear from you too."
My brothers a senior at highschool and is almost never around. Normally he's at a friend's house, going to party's or hanging out with a girl. As far as brothers go he's pretty good. Over protective sure but at least he calls me and makes sure I'm ok.
"Yeah yeah, hi, mums been trying to reach you. She said your not replying to any of her texts." Oops.
"I'm fine. I'm at the shops picking a few things up for dinner, did she tell you were having guests over?"
"Yeah, her boss is coming."
Huh. Mum works as a nurse at the hospital. She's usually very busy so even having her at home today cooking feels weird. Most of the time I'm alone on the weekend.
"Oh."
"Yeah, are you almost home?"
"I'm driving now so I better go."
"Ok, be safe, bye"
"Bye."
I hang up and soon I pull up in our driveway.
Our house is pretty big, two story, modern on the inside but more suburban on the outside."Home!" I call out when I walk through the front door.
It smells amazing in here.
I walk into the kitchen and put the bags on the island counter.
I get a text from Rose.Rose: Hey, I'm home now, meet at three?
Me: Sure see you then.
Good, that leaves me plenty of time to fix my appearance. I throw on a nicer shirt, some jeans and put my hair in a pony tail with some strands framing my face. I put on a little bit of mascara and lip gloss then step back to look in the mirror. Not too fancy but at least I look presentable.
I leave a note for mum and Jake telling them we're I am. Then I grab my coat, phone, purse and keys. I decide to walk.
As I'm walking the memories from last summer roll in, what happened and what didn't. Not now, I think. I shrug them off and focus on the shops passing by. Soon I arrive and with five minutes to spare.
