The milkshake bar is owned by an old man named Jerry. Its been here since anyone could remember and was a hot spot with the highschoolers. With its retro feel and amazing drinks. I walked through the door and was hit instantly with the sweet sugary smell of milkshakes.
"Grace!"
I turned my head to see Kyla sitting in a booth agaisnt the wall. She was with Marion, they were both girls from my school. Kyla waved me over.

"Hi!" I said when I approached her.
"Are you with anyone, wanna join us?" Kyla asked. I could see Marion frown.
"No, actually I'm meeting someone in about," I checked my phone.
"Two minutes." I said. Kyla shrugged.
"Maybe next time." She said.
"Definitly"
I waved goodbye and grabbed a table across the room. Kyla was an old friend. We weren't close but we've always been in the same class. Marions new so I don't know her as well. The door bell rings and Rose walks in.

"Rose!" I call.
She turns around and breaks into a smile when she sees me. She hurries over.
"Hi!" She exclaimed as she shuffled onto a seat opposite me.
"Hey!"
She looked around.
"Hey, are you new, I don't think I've seen you before?" I guessed.
"Yeah, we moved here last week and I haven't had a chance to look around town yet." She said.

"Hey girls, have you decided what milkshake you want yet!" A perky girl in a frilly dress came over. I looked at Rose.
"Uh.."
I jumped in since she obviously hadn't been here before.
"One salted caramel and chocolate milkshake and one.. Strawberry and vanilla swirl, please." I ordered for her and I hoped she didn't hate it.
Rose beamed at me thankfully and I exhaled in relief.
"No problem, they'll be right out!" The waitress smiled and walked away. I turned back to Rose.
"Thanks, I had no idea what to order."
"I could tell"
We smiled at each other and a brilliant idea came to mind.

"You said you haven't had a chance to look around town yet?"
She nodded.
"Well, I'm free tomorrow and if you want I can give you a tour?" I suggested. She looked at me in silence before breaking into that Amazing smile.
"I'd love that!" She gushed. Phew.

"Here you are!" The waitress came back over with our milkshakes and placed them on the table.
"What one do you want?" I asked when she left.
"Whatever one your not having," Rose grinned.
I reached out for the salted caramel and chcoclate slowly. She laughed.
"Yes, I wanted the strawberry anyway!" We laughed together and I met her try some of mine when she let me try some of hers.
"Mm, these are both so good," She moaned through sips.

"So why'd you move?" I asked. She looked uncomfortable for a second.
"Oh, just my dads work."
I nodded.
"Cool."
"Yeah, I'm excited for a change of scenery," She said.
We finished our milkshakes quickly.
"Oh, my God! I never got your name!" Rose startled me. Oops again.
"Oops, it's Grace, Grace Hamilton," I told her.
"Well, Grace Hamilton, it's was amazing of you to invite me." She giggled. Her blond hair bouncing on her shoulders. I smirked and pushed my wire frame glasses up my nose.
"Where should we meet tomorrow?" She said once she stopped laughing.
"Hmm, how about my place? I'll text you the address later." I suggested.
"Perfect, see you the Grace." She smiled and waved as she opened the door to the milkshake shake. I waved back and smiled too. Maybe this summer wouldn't be as bad as it thought.

When I got home the place was a mad house. Mum and dad where whipping all sorts of food. My older brother was dashing about trying to clean up a bit before Amanda (Mums boss) arrived.
"Hey." I said hi to Jake before running upstairs.
"Mum said wear something nice!" Jake called after me.

The first thing I did when I opened the door to my room was send a text to Rose.

Me: I had fun this afternoon, meet at this address, 23 Maple at, at maybe ten am?

I shift through my wardrobe while I wait for her to reply. I didnt have anything that fancy but I found a simple red jumpsuit and heels in my cupboard. It fit perfectly. I touched up my makeup and applied some red lipstick. Then I curled my hair quickly.

I admired the outfit in the mirror. Not bad Grace, not bad.
There was knock on my door.
Jake walked in. Whoa!
Not to be weird but Jake, my brother who always wears an old t-shirt and jeans, with his hair exactly like it is when he wakes up looked good.
"Wow, sis, you look good...not in a weird way." I laughed.
"I was just thinking the same thing about you."

Amanda was early so Jake and I made small talk while Mum got ready. The dinner was incredible and I had seconds. So did Jake. Overall it went all. I was back in my room by ten. I got changed intk pyjamas and brushed my teeth. Then I jumped into bed and checked my phone. There was a text from Rose. My heart flipped. Flipped? Seriously Grace?

Rose: Yep sounds good. I had fun too, can't wait for tomorrow 😊

There was another text from two minutes ago.

Rose: Can I call you?

I smiled and hit the call button.
"Thought you'd never call" Rose said and I could hear the smirk through the phone.
"It's literally been two minutes," I scoffed.
"Way too long if you ask me," she says.

"You know, I'm glad I ran into you with my trolley." I blurted out.
There was silence.
"You know what, Grace, I'm glad you did too."

We talked for two hours before I realised it was midnight.
"So what's the school like?" Rose asks.
"Oh, it's good, your average highschool." I answered.
I told her about the time I peed myself in third grade. Something I've never told anyone. She laughed at me and to make it fair she told me about the time she ate a frog leg on a dare.

At four o'clock I yawned into the phone.
"We should probably get some sleep, we do have to be up in four hours"
"I enjoyed talking to you Rose.. Rose..?"
"Moore."
"Well then, I enjoyed talking to you Rose Moore,"
"And I too, Grace Hamilton."
I put the phone down next to me and closed my eyes.
We didn't hang up.
