Note: This is a fan fiction story based on the Scream movies.

Natalie chewed on the end of her pencil. She could taste the bitter wood against her tongue, and she didn’t mind it. Her mind was boggling for answers to a math question that seemed useless to try to figure out. Her fringe fell in her face for the something-hundredth time and she couldn’t be bothered to tuck it behind her ear again.
The sound of the house phone’s ringtone startled her from intense studying. She groaned loudly and grudgingly walked over to the other side of the long kitchen counter where she ripped the phone out of it’s stand and held it up to her ear.

“Hello?” The sound of her own voice startled her for the second time.
“Hello, is this Katrina?” A husky voice asked smoothly.
“No, and there isn’t any Katrina’s in this household, so you must have the wrong number.” Natalie was about to hang up until the man’s voice spoke again.
"Who am I speaking to?" His voice seems natural, but Natalie can sense something is up. She was always told by her mother to not speak to strangers, and this man seemed a bit creepy to her.

"Oh, umm...my name is Serena." She lied to the man. Natalie could hear him sigh on the phone before hearing his voice again.

"Well, Serena. You have a nice name." His husky voice presses on.

"Thanks, and what's your name?" Natalie decides to ask him.

"Sorry, I don't tell strangers my name."

"OK, well-" Natalie cuts herself off before clicking the end call button. She's relieved that she won't have to spend another awkward second talking to this freak.

Natalie groggily goes back to her homework with a long and loud sigh. She picks up her pencil between her fingers and suddenly remembers how to complete the equation for homework, which she then fills in.

Again, Natalia hears the ring from the home phone. She crosses her fingers that it won't be the same creepy guy. She picks up the phone slowly and puts it to her ear.

"Hello? Is this Katrina?" The familiar husky voice asks. She sighs in disappointment.

"Nope, wrong number again." Natalie groans.

"Oh, I'm terribly sorry to be disturbing you." He apologises smoothly. Natalie could make out the strange tone in his voice that told her he was probably lying.

"That's fine, I'm not really doing much."

"Oh really? Are you at home or something." His voice goes even smoother.

"Yeah, just doing homework. It kinda sucks."

"I know what you mean." He laughs through the phone. His voice makes Natalie shiver.

“How old are you...Serena?” The stranger asks. Natalie is confused at first to why he called her Serena, but then she remembers the fake name she had given him.

“Why should I tell you?” She says in protest. The idea of telling this man her age sent many unforgiving thoughts to her head of what mine happen next. Kidnapped, murdered, raped... Unappealing thoughts that her mother would instantly disapprove of.

“Well, I wanna know who I’m talking to.” He pushes.

Natalie shakes her head and hangs up on him. Suddenly she feels violated...as if she’s being watched at this very minute.

Her thoughts are interrupted once again by the sound of the phone ringing. Natalie ignores it and walks back over to her homework, deciding to get back into study mode, a mode she prefers to be in than talking to the same stranger.

After half a minute, the phone stops ringing. It bugged Natalie, and it bugged her even more when the phone erupted with the same annoying tune again. Natalie decides to ignore it for the second time and continue on with her homework.
