daniel seavey was casually seated, admiring the view from his window seat in the flight he was currently on, with the palm of his right hand supporting his chin as he continued to gaze. he has been on this current flight for about two hours, and he had about a half an hour to go.

daniel slowly began to doze, as his flight boarded at an ungodly hour in the morning, four in the morning to be exact. he was abruptly jolted awake by a boisterous voice booming through the speakers, stating that they were close to landing.

daniel took one last look at the dawn-colored sky ahead of him, before deciding on staying awake until the flight had landed. he rubbed his eyes with both hands and carefully stretched out his body within the cramped space.

daniel noticed that the flight was now descending, bracing himself for impact. he had been on his fair share of flights, but he was still nervous each time. the views were amazing, but his fear of heights, not so much.

the flight landed more calmly than daniel had anticipated, much to his surprise. people began to flood the exit, desperately wanting to get out of the cramped, slightly smelly area. daniel grabbed his carry-on bag from above, which was his black nike backpack, the first thing he could find before he left.

daniel was moving from texas, where his mom lived. his parents got a divorce when he was just five years old, and his mother won main custody, so that's where he spent most of his time, seeing his father seldom.

so that's where he's moving now. he's moving to oregon with his father, to make up for lost time never spent between the two.

daniel has now exited the plane, making his way towards baggage claim. immediately spotting his two blue silicone suitcases, he grabs them and turns around to meet his father's gaze from across the airport.

daniel set a mellow pace to meet his father who was standing just a few yards away now. daniel gave an awkward soft smile to his father, and his father tried to return it.

there was now an awkward silence between the two now until daniel's father, jeff, spoke up and said, "wow, it's been so long."

"yeah, i guess it has been," daniel responded with an awkward chuckle.

"well, let's get going," jeff stated, grabbing one of daniel's suitcases.

"je--dad," daniel quickly corrected himself, the word being almost foreign to his mouth. "you don't have to carry my stuff."

"no, i insist," jeff responded.

daniel huffed, thinking to himself, this is going to be so awkward.

a whole awkwardly silent car ride and forty-five minutes later, they arrive at jeff's house--or where daniel will be staying. the two unload the car, daniel grabbing his backpack and one suitcase, jeff grabbing the other.

daniel and jeff make their way up the stairs to the front door, jeff leading the way. unlocking the door, jeff pushes it open, revealing the house daniel had spent hardly any time in.

everything looked nearly the same in the house as daniel vaguely remembered. a few new touches here and there, but ultimately practically the same.

as daniel continued to look around, jeff said, "i can lead you up to your room."

daniel nodded as he looked at him, and followed him up the creaky wooden stairs to his room with his luggage making loud noises against the already noisy stairs. once they were upstairs, daniel couldn't even remember which room was his, it had been that long.

jeff opened one of the doors, revealing daniel's room just how he left it. daniel walked in, observing the light gray walls, his black desk chair, sitting at his desk with his corkboard on the wall above it, everything left untouched.

"i hope you're alright with the gray bed sheets, i wasn't sure what color to get," jeff explained.

"oh, that's fine. it'll go with the theme of my room and it'll work just fine," daniel responded.

"ok, i'll leave you to unpack or do whatever," jeff said, walking out of daniel's room.

daniel nodded, waiting for his father to leave to fall back against his bed and rest. as his father left, that's exactly what he did, pulling out his phone in the process, checking the time. the clock read 10:37, and a notification from his mom asking how he was doing. he quickly sent back a text stating that he was fine, and that he might nap for a while.

daniel set his phone down on the nightstand, and turned onto his side, his eyelids falling heavy.

the last thought daniel was conscious of was about school, which began next week, before he drifted off into a deep slumber.
