Chapter 13- Books and Blood

Katie's POV

I can't stand it anymore after 24 hours of the silent treatment i'm ready to bust. I wanted to kill my self for the fact that I was keeping a secret. I shouldn't be keeping this secret from Lillian. I saw that she had a scar and I even asked her how she got it , but just shrugged with no response. It made me scared for the fact that Lillian might be beating her self up, but she could have just tripped. I mean she wouldn't beat herself up for no reason so I settled on the fact that she just tripped. I opened my book on the desk and started to read aloud. I really needed to work on my reading since everyone at the orphanage didn't exactly read especially if you lived all your life. I paced slowly on the words figuring out how to pronounce them. Lillian knew I couldn't read, so she usually helped me with my pronouncing. Today, though she was ignoring me and it hurt so much, but I do gotta learn how to read.

I kept on miss pronouncing the word californiajisticexpallodoces. I didn't care the fact that I couldn't pronounce it I am still learning. Reading aloud was not really my strong suit so this got me very confused. The only good thing about it was that I was able to do it alone with Lillian. I read for an hour until I heard a knock on the door. I thought it was Lillian, but I was wrong it was Maddie with her fresh baked chocolate almond cookies! "Yummy " I chewed while drooling.

"I'm glad you like it Katie" she smiled.

I kept chewing while I read. "Katie don't talk with her mouth full." She called. I stopped reading out loud and chewed slowly. "Oh ok I won't" I hesitated. I really didn't know which I felt guilty a little. Maddie then left the room and I finished my cookie alone again in room. I really wished Lillian would help me I am under some destrest. I decided to get of the room for a break it was getting late anyway and I had not seen Lillian all day. I didn't even see her in the morning that friend of mine..

Lillian's POV [Early that day]

I don't know why, but I really didn't feel like talking to Katie today. I felt unsure of what she was keeping from me I was so curious to figure the explaination. I woke up super early the next day and decided to go to the park. I changed,grabbed Miko's leash, a book, and 2 water bottles to be placed in my backpack. Miko could use some more walking and I needed some company other than Katie. Once I finished grabbing my stuff I set out to walk to the park. It wasn't very far and I didn't feel like going anywhere else. Miko is a good dog and sometimes I could let go of his leash and he wouldn't run away. He was the best dog ever and I loved him. I kept my pace steddy until I saw a strange man walk right pass me. My arm began to hurt until I realised the man had cut me in the arm. His hood was on so I couldn't tell what he look like, but I sure knew he was evil. I turned to look at my numb arm and saw the big cut he had did to me. It wasn't very large, but hurt a lot I needed to cover it so I wouldn't lose any blood. I grabbed the water bottles from my bag and stopped at a bench. I poured the water onto my arm until my arm stopped hurting in pain. I was fine after that, but I had a opening in my jacket. Oh well it was a jacket I could get a new one anytime. This was my second cut, but this never bothered my I loved cuts they made me look strong. I don't know why, but I feel proud when I get one. I kept walking until I finally made it to the park. It was still dark and I had a whole day to relax and think. I took off Miko's leashed and let him run for a while. He looked at me then started running like the wind. Boy, he was sure happy to be running around at the park. I watched him run after 2 hours he got tired and sat next to me on the grass. It was so relaxing sitting in the grass on a mild day. Miko was happy and I was happy I totally forgot about Katie's secret. She didn't really need me today which was good. I took out my book and began to read my peppy book. It was fun reading a book that was made of joy rather than my own life where I have to live in an orphange. My stomach groweled as I winced at the sky. "Dang it" I huffed under my breath. I forgot to eat breakfast! I glanced at the sky knowing it was to late to eat. Ignoring the pain I went back to reading. After I finished the book I called Miko over and we went walking back home. The man who cut me came back into the crowded sidewalk. He had a baseball in his hand as he began to follow me around. After I walked a block I went into an alleyway to get home faster. Suddleny it turned pitch black..........
