Sometimes I have visions. They usually end with my death.
I have lost all of my identity. I was stripped away from my name, my wants, my goals, my everything at a really young age, young enough for me to not even remember what those were anymore, and the only thing I have keeping me alive is the fact that my reality already feels like death.
I grew up completely alienated from the outside world as I was nothing but an experiment. I only learned about the existence of trivial things such as buildings, technology and processed food one time when they gave me a glowing blue pill and that stopped me from having visions for one night. That's when I attempted my first escape.
Now I know you might be thinking I grew up locked in some sort of high end facility that tested and controlled me, but in reality I had more access to the open world than expected. There were no walls surrounding me, no roof over my head, no bars stopping me from moving... I simply existed in the depths of a forest.
Every day once the sun set they would come to me and knock me out of my visions, then they would take me to a river stream where they would bathe me and give me some mushy things as food. They wouldn't speak to me, I wouldn't ask questions, and once they were finished they would take me back to the same spot I was sitting at and stare at me for a few hours while taking notes. I have wondered multiple times what sort of things they would write about me, if they were analyzing something physical or expecting some sort of reaction, but all I would do is sit there and wait for them to leave and my visions to start again.
'Who are they?' You might be wondering. I call them shadows. There's always something dark revolving them, and they're slender and scary just like the shadows on a dimly lit street. Their hands have long pointy fingers and they have no faces, though I hear whispers coming from them from time to time. In a way they look a lot like me.
