"DON'T YOU THINK
YOU SHOULD BE
SLEEP YOUNG MAN"

IT WAS sometime around ten thirty at night and instead of sleeping, jahseh was wide awake and playing the game he had just recently bought with his allowance. the sixteen year old was well supposed to have been sleep, but he couldn't resist the temptation of playing his game before so.

he was at his grandmother's house since his mother had 'work'. this was where he spent most of his time anyways because she was always busy. he didn't mind, his bestfriend lived closer to here anyways.

the black headset laid on jahseh's head snuggly, the volume so loud so that he only heard that and nothing from the world around him. his tongue rested on his bottom lip and his eyebrows were furrowed in concentration. "yo, jahseh! they right behind you, bruh!"

he jumped slightly to the sudden sound of yelling in his ears that came from nobody else but his bestfriend, stokeley, the same one who got him interested in the game that was being played. "nigga, you shoot them! i'm doing something." jahseh replied harshly as he continued moving his fingers over various buttons on the controller to continue building the wooden house.

"we on two completely different sides of the map, dumbass!" stokeley snapped back with irritation in his voice. he hated to carry his friend in the game, especially when all he wanted to do was run around and build stuff. unfortunately, jahseh was killed and all his hard work was for nothing.

flinging his headset off of his head, the young boy slammed his controller down onto the messy bed. "FUCK!" he screamed but quickly covered his mouth with both hands soon after. he had forgotten that his grandmother was only in the other room, watching some romantic comedy on netflix.

he could subtly hear his bestfriend screaming for him to get back on the game, but the sound of his door being opened prevented him from doing so. "i thought you were asleep, boy." his grandmother stated as she entered the room, he saw her glance at the television screen. the first thing that could come out of his mouth was a lie.

"i was but.. i— i woke up." he stuttered slightly, something he did when he lied. knowing that because she was the one who basically raised him, she arched an eyebrow and crossed her arms over her chest. "so.. you weren't playing that game?"

the pressure of the situation only caused him to lie more, that was his problem. jahseh shook his head, "no ma'am."

"you cursed in my house AND lied in my face, ricardo?" she asked, walking up to him. thinking that she only wanted to get closer so she could hit him, he scooted back on his bed to get a little more distance between them.

instead, she grabbed the headset and pressed a button on the side to power them off. once the blue light was gone to indicate that it was off, she walked to the outlet that held the plug of the game and yanked it out, making him silently groan.

"you have school tomorrow, go to sleep."

"okay."

"okay?" she asked with a scrunch of her slightly wrinkled face.

"yes, ma'am." he corrected himself. she nodded her head at the correct affirmation, dropping the cord of the game system on the ground. she walked towards the door and turned toward him once more. "and take a shower in the morning because i know you didn't take one tonight."
