Chapter 6
Scarlet sat down on the bike right behind Nick, biting her lips as she eyed the broken brake suspiciously. "You sure this is a good idea? To let this crap carries us home?" She looked down at the ugly bunch of metals they were sitting on as if they were a pile of dung. "The brake isn't even working, you know."
Nick laughed a little, "Well when that happens, we can fly. It's physics." He said, turning back to look at her. She raised her eyebrow at him, questioning. "Really?"
"Of course not."
"You---" Scarlet slapped him hard on the back, but Nick laughed even harder. He started pedaling and the bike started moving forward, slowly at first and grew faster every second. Scarlet wrapped her arms around his waist and crossed her fingers before resting them on his abs. Somehow it gave her weird, tingling feelings on her neck--- and she had no idea why.
Scarlet closed her eyes and felt the wind blowing on her face, her brown hair rippled over her shoulders like sunshine. Everything else moved faster around her, making her dizzy. She shook her head and secured the lock of her hands around Nick's waist.
She could smell the familiar scent of him in the breeze. It lingered just a little longer on her face, making her whole body blushed. She smiled a little as she tried to figure out the scent --- it smelled like a mix of sunshine, bread and flowers.
Nick took a turn at the corner into a street. He felt a light weight on his back, knowing that it was just Scarlet leaning on him, and smiled. He felt... safe. Whenever Scarlet relies on him. It felt safe just having her around, where he could see her everyday in his life. Because he'd be worried about her, surviving a day without him.
Which is highly impossible.
He drifted further and further away into his thoughts when Scarlet shook him. "Nick!" She called and pointed to the steep road ahead. Nick gasped and went for the brake, but it wasn't working, of course. "Stop!" Scarlet cried behind him as their bike went down along the slippery mood in a full-on speed.
Nick gasped when he saw a small stone laying on the ground right there in front of them. Everything was a blur the moment he turned the bike, and successfully avoided the stone. The bike skidded, throwing them off into a short distance away from it.
Nick landed on the ground, hard. He opened his arms when Scarlet came rolling down on him and hugged her. She stopped screaming as she landed on top of him, her face facing his. She pulled herself up very quickly and pretended to dust something off her shirt before turning back to Nick.
"Oh my god, “Scarlet said, still sitting on top of him. "Nick, you okay?" She looked down at his face and gently touched a red scratch on it. Nick groaned a little, turning away, "Ouch."
"Can you stand up?" Scarlet asked, concerned. Nick can't help but laughed. "I can if you're not sitting on me." He said grinning.
"Sorry." Scarlet jumped up, realizing she had been sitting on him all this time. Nick stood up slowly and went over to pick up the bike. "It's not funny, Nick, we could have hurt ourselves badly." She said, her hands rested on her hips as she lectured him.
"And I'm glad you' didn't." Nick smiled and patted her head. He held her hand with his free arm and started dragging her towards the direction of their home. "Let’s go, mom."
"Nick!"
But he just laughed again.
