19 year old Lily Arrisolt unpacked the first of many boxes that lined the walls of her new place. She had just struck out on her own and decided the small Hawaiian island Kauai would be her new paradise. I mean it was Hawaii for goodness sakes but it wasn’t one of the popular islands so it wasn’t touristy. She traveled to the bathroom placing a few items in their new home. Stopping to look in the mirror she imagined the transformation she planned to have while living here. Now she looked at short blonde messy hair and imagined it long and voluptuous. Her skin, pale from not enough sun in North Carolina would be sun kissed in no time here. One thing she couldn’t change though were her dull grey eyes. Being stuck with them had been a curse her whole life when the rest of her family had gorgeous blue or greens. Her dog Max walks up tearing her from her musings. He looks up at her with his own striking blue eyes making her feel even worse. Oh well though if the worst thing that happens to her while here was being stuck with her grey eyes then she’d write that down as a win.

If she only knew…..

Crap! Lily thought to herself, she was late for the party already. It was her first ever party being here. I was going to be awesome cause in was in a house by the beach. It was also the first part she would ever have been to, not counting birthdays and holidays of course. Taking one last look on the mirror she looks over her outfit. A grey top with a leaf design, black jeans, and matching color combat boots. Yep it will have to do.

She approaches the house that the party was at. It wasn’t as big as she expected, there are kids on the porch, and a lot of kids going in and out. All of them were holding red solo cups making her chuckle, she thought that was only in the movies and songs. Whatever. Walking up to the porch everyone automatically turns to stare at her. Immediately she turns her attention to the ground and rubs her arm. Curding herself for pulling such a girl-ish move she slowly goes into the house. She sees people hanging out on the couch, leaning against the wall chatting, just everywhere. Trying not to draw attention to herself she hugs the wall grabbing a bottle of water. She was always such a goody-good that’s what her brothers said anyway. She didn’t know why she was at a party for fucks sake. So what if she didn’t want to add underage drinking to her rap sheet. Besides she would have drank honest, she just didn’t want her first time being drunk to be in front of strangers.

Suddenly someone taps her on her shoulder, slowly turning around trying to play it cool she comes face to face with a cute guy! Cute? Try hot, to be completely honest. He had a black buzz cut, stunning green eyes and skin about as pale as hers. And that was saying something. He had a small black earring in one ear and was smiling, really cute. Almost indescribable. Oh crap she had been staring at him for a long time taking in the details and he was now waving in her face. Embarrassing!

“Yo. I know I’m a stunner, but don’t stare, dude. It’s making me kind of uncomfortable.” He said with a grin. She snapped out of her daze and apologized cheeks on fire. His smile got wider. “No problem, chica. What you name?”

Her name – what was her name? “Lily. Yours?” she says quickly regaining her mind bit by bit. Ugh she was losing her cool! She needed to get a hold of herself!

“Do.”

She paused. What the heck kind of name is that? And how do you spell it? Like the animal D-O-E? She didn’t want to get it wrong and put another foot in her mouth. “Don’t be offended but….how do you spell that?”

He chuckled. “D-O.”

“Oh.” She says stupidly. I mean what do you say to that?

He rescues her from the awkwardness by putting a conversation starter in. “Why is a girl like you at a party like this?” Hmm what did he mean? This didn’t seem like a bad party to her. That’s when he leaned in close to her ear and whispered. “This is a drug house, sweetheart.”

Her eyes widened as her stomach dropped. Do chuckled, leaning back. I rose a brow at him trying to regain some composure. “Why are you here then?”

“I’m  one of the hosts friends, I’m expected to be here.” He replied quickly. “Now why don’t you get out of here before something bad happens? I don’t want a pretty thing like you getting hurt.” He said genuine concern laced in his voice making her pause.

He sighed, shaking his head. He puts his arm around her, leaning in after non conspicuously looking around. Getting closer he whispered in her ear, “Pretend like we’re together, beauty, people are starting to stare.” With that, he let out a fake laugh like she had just said the funniest thing and kissed her shoulder. Fire ran from where he kissed all the way to the butterflies in her stomach. Making her feel even more like an idiot.

Suddenly they hear gunshots outside. Do looks at the door then frantically starts shuffling her toward the back door. “Get out of here! NOW!”

Confused and scared she starts running with Do right next to her keeping close. When the back and front doors slam open a bunch of guys in masks run in, shooting at the people in the party. Do slams to a stop, grabbing her and running into another room, maybe a closet or a bathroom. Suddenly one of the masked guys was only a few feet away from them, in front of them, and shoots his gun. She freezes and sees only black.

But she wasn’t shot. The blackness she saw was Do’s shirt. He jumped in front of her, shielding her. She starts to feel wetness, shaking as Do falls into her arms gasping. The masked guy is gone. And—

Do was shot in the back. Lily fell to her knees, holding him as he grunted, a pained expression on his face but she could tell he was trying to stay strong.

“Why did you do that!?” she whisper-yells at him.

He smiled, a pained smile. “I couldn’t let you get shot, beauty. Not when your so…” he trailed off.

“So- so what?” she begs him to finish.

He shook his head, wincing and grunting. The gunshots and screams continue in the background but she pays them no mind. “Get- get out of here. Now.” he says weakly “Please, beauty…”

Tears are streaming down her face, and one drips off her chin hitting his cheek. She hears police sirens. Do reaches up and strokes her cheek. She places her hand on his , then realized her hand was covered in blood. His blood. She starts  shaking, muffled sob escapes her, and he shushes her. he gives her one last smile.

Then his eyes roll to the back of his head, and his hand falls from her cheek. His shaking stops. All expression leaves his face. She starts shaking violently, but his voice still rings in her head.

Het out of here, now. Please, beauty.

She slowly gets up, hesitantly laying his body down and runs out of there. past the police handcuffing and tackling people getting their guns from them. One officer tries to stop her seeing she is covered in blood but she just runs past him tear rapidly leaving her eyes and running down her face.
