The name Isaac Lincoln was a household name around Hawkins, Indiana. Parents described him as a criminal, a bad apple, a low-life. They said he was bad news.
To the residents of Hawkins, Isaac wasn't a misunderstood teenager. He wasn't some rebellious kid who just needed to smooth himself out. No. To them, Isaac was a force to be reckoned with. A monster, some would even say.
He had more run ins with the police than he could count on both hands. (Though, some would argue he'd need both his feet too.)
Run ins for vandalism, theft, drugs, even if it was just marijuana, trespassing.
Each time, he'd land himself one night in a cell, but Hopper would always pull strings and let him off. No one knew why Hopper had such a soft spot for the kid, but it didn't matter. Isaac was grateful for Hopper.
Only once was Hopper unable to get him out.
Isaac had gone ballistic and beat a boy in his PE class so severely that it landed him in the hospital for just over a week. Seemingly, without reason.
For his father, Isaac going to juvie for the summer was the final straw. He was disowned and living with his grandma within one day of his return.
The first day, he was angry. Isaac was really, really angry. Until he saw her. His new next door neighbor.
Nancy Wheeler.
She was in two of his classes, second and fourth period.
Isaac has always felt something for the girl, she was the only one who didn't treat him differently. He knew she felt the same way everyone else did about him, it was clear in her eyes, but it was never apparent with her words or actions.
So when he saw her struggling to carry books and supplies for a science project into the house, he was out the door and running to help in two seconds flat.
She was hesitant to let him help at first, worried at what her mom might think when he stepped foot into her house. But when she dropped everything a third time, she relented, letting him help her by carrying everything in for her.
She didn't understand how a so-called monster could be so kind to her without reason.
