Happy Birthday Reiji Kotobuki! (7/13)

    I feel my hair get rustled up by the wind coming through the car’s window. The setting sun giving off a warm glow from where it sinks. I look over towards the driver and find his eyes loosely connected to the road as he moves his attention back over towards me. He gives me a smile. I feel butterflies rise up in my chest.

    Another thing creeps its way in along with it. Anxiety. I didn’t get him anything for his birthday. I just... forgot about it. Shouldn’t I remember something like this? 

    Especially if I’m dating the guy? I move my attention away from the driver to stare back out the window. I bet he’s definitely expecting something from me as well. He probably expected it all day.

    I fight back the urge to sigh. We enter the area and get out of the car. Both of us come around the front and an arm goes around my back to grab my shoulder. He pulls me into him and squeezes. 

    “This is great my girl! I finally get to spend some alone time with my honey!” I bashfully look away as I grab the brunette’s hand and start dragging him through the sand. He starts matching my pace as we start to walk along the waves. Our fingers interlock as we keep our shoulders pressed to each other’s. 

    After a minute or two Reiji stops in his tracks pulling me back into him. I look down at the sand and waves.

    “Why-” 

    “Doesn’t the ocean look beautiful right now (Y/N)?” Reiji’s voice makes me look up. The sun is in the ocean with its reflecting rays. I’ve been to the beach multiple times with Reiji during different times. Yet the sight in front of me is still beautiful as always. It’s tranquil in a way. Like all my worries just melt away. 

    I hear from beside me Reiji take in a big happy and content breath. I move my attention once more over to him.

    “It’s important to look at the beautiful things in life every once in awhile,” Reiji says as he continues to stare out into the sea. I move my attention back over towards it as well. 

    “Do you want to tell big bro your problems?” Reiji asks me making me shoot my attention towards him instantly. 

    “There’s no problems to discuss. Also stop calling yourself my big bro when we are dating, it’s weird!” I tell him as I face the sea again. Reiji puts his arm around me again and pulls me into his side. 

    “Come on honey! I know something’s wrong! You’ve been avoiding me all day!” I freeze upon what he said. I thought he didn’t notice that at all. I let out a sigh as he’s going to find out about it either way and we won’t be able to leave this spot until he finds out what’s wrong.

    “Okay, I’ll tell you,” I let out in a mumble making him perk up. 

    “I was avoiding you all day because… I don’t have a gift for you today. I was spending the whole time today trying to find you one, but none of them were good enough.” I look down at the sand and waves as I wait to hear the disappointment in his voice. 

    “Aww, my honey cares that much about me!” Reiji’s happy tone surprises me as I look up at him.

    “But-” Reiji grabs my hands as he looks at me.

    “Your love is enough for me! That’s the greatest present in the whole world! And it’s something only I get!” Reiji tells me with eyes gleaming in happiness and love. Just like looking at the sunset before me, all of my worries and anxiety washes away with the waves. 

    I let go of his hands only to greet him in a hug. I smile into his chest, “Thank you Reiji! Happy Birthday!”

    I hear a chuckle come from him as he rests his head against mine, “My girl! I’m the one who is supposed to thank you!” 

    I let out a short laugh as we give each other one last big squeeze before we let go. We grab each other’s hand before we start walking again. When the sun is almost completely away we make it to the destination. 

    “Okay Reiji! Here we are!” I tell him as we walk up towards the table and lights. Upon seeing us everyone shouts out the same thing. 

    “Happy Birthday!” 

    Confetti shoots Reiji’s way as I let go of his hand to join in on it. All of STARISH and Quartet Night are here no matter if it was willingly or not. For most of the night it is all of us celebrating Reiji’s birthday with him. Except when midnight comes around Reiji pulls me away and sneaks us away from everyone. 

    “What is it Reiji? Don’t you like it?” I ask him. The smile on his face sure tells me that he does.

    “Of course I like it!” Reiji tells me.

    “Then what is it?” I ask.

    “It’s just that I wasn’t able to spend any alone time with my girl today! The moment we had wasn’t enough! I want more time with you!” Reiji tells me with a pouty expression. I look at him and let out a small giggle. 

    “Why are you laughing?” I look at Reiji and softly come up to him and place a kiss on his cheek. It makes his expression change from a pouty one to a shy one. I grab Reiji’s hands as I look at him. 

    “You’re cute, ya know that?” I say to him before I pull him into a kiss. The only thing I could give to him on his special day. When we pull apart I grab hold of his face and stare deeply into his eyes. 

    “You can have as much of me as you want. Now and forever.”
